"Democracy is the Enemy." Check this out, by a recently scrubbed contributing editor to an offshoot of Frank Gaffney's influential Center for Security Policy.
http://www.warandpiece.com/blogdirs/006533.html

By elevating popular fancy over truth, Democracy is clearly an enemy of not just truth, but duty and justice, which makes it the worst form of government. President Bush must overcome not just the situation in Iraq, but democratic government ....

If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a liability to an asset); and boost American prestige while terrifying American enemies.

He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.

1. since the 40s, Washington believed that "weak democracies" couldn't stand up to Commie infiltration
and so sponsored "strong" dictatorships, installing or green-lighting them around the world:

on top of these are coups in Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Nigeria, terrorists and death squads in Sierra Leone, Colombia, Italy, Turkey, Angola, Mozambique, Afghanistan, and the tyrants of Egypt, Arabia, and Iraq
this trend shows not just a demented desire to "protect the U.S. from Communism," but a yen for dictatorship, seeing it as a positive good--so why not one at home? Tricky Dick came rather close--but was stopped by Congress
