1. What?
The first sentence makes it sound like the military made a mistake in identifying one of the victims, but the rest of the article doesn't fit with that.

3. Try again...
Original:

"A 23-year-old Coastal Bend man says he's been identified as one of 14 soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq this week."

Cleaned up:

"A...man says he's...one of 14 soldiers killed in a helicopter crash..."

5. There's nothing to try again.
That first sentence, by itself, would imply that a 23 year old Coastal Bend man was incorrectly identified as someone who died in the crash. How else could he be saying anything? The problem is that that interpretation (the only logical one that I can see) doesn't fit with the rest of the article.

2. A dead man says he's been identified as a victim of an incident
that caused him to be dead?

4. the next pp goes on to say who their source is
I assume the first pp is just sloppy typing/editing - but wow! Some proofreader needs to lay off the joy juice.
