2. I know; maybe others saw it
And then he talked about how it was 100 degrees in the gym that was built in 1926, where kids in SC are supposed to play in the summertime.

It was all good.

4. I hope this is sarcasm.
Obama was a bball player as a youth. These days who knows when having a good shot may come in handy? I think I'd rather see wars settled with a game of horse between Obama and say Putin than what we do now.

10. Well, sarcasm or not...
I think Soothsayer was directing the word "racist" at CNN, not the OP, so I'm not sure why the post was removed.

5. That's kind of what I was thinking, too.
So what will CNN have him do next, for Chrissakes? Enter a watermelon- and fried-chicken-eating contest? Shine Wolf's loafers?

7. Indeed LOL
It's amazing, ain't it?

I swear to God, sometimes I think everything is racist, offensive, biased, misogynist, patriarchal or bigoted to some here. It's too funny to watch.

16. Some things are just products of one's own racism, bigotry......
.....to see it in everything and then try to "call them on it".

25. I think we're just trying to figure out what the hell is being implied
A news organization should never show a black man playing basketball because it implies a racial stereotype?

Obama shouldn't play basketball because it feeds some sort of stereotype?

Why the need to jump from talking about an African-American man playing basketball to a comment on "fried chicken and watermelon"?

31. It just seems suspicious.
There are, what, eight? other Democratic candidates, and the ONE candidate they decide to show playing basketball just happens to be black. Oh, yeah, OK...

It feeds into a stereotypical view of African Americans, so I'm calling CNN on it. When they dwell on Mrs Clinton's physical appearance (hairstyle, dress, jewellery) -- or when they do that for other female politicians -- and do it less frequently for the other presidential candidates, or male politicians in general, I think they're being sexist.

Of course, if it were Faux News rather than CNN, I wouldn't put it past them to comment on whether Obama is a good tap dancer.

I have been on this earth long enough to have heard all the stereotypes, and so I am mentioning them as examples. That in no way makes me a racist or a bigot.

Plus he got his message out there, which is important.

As long as you got my message, too, that I'm certainly not a racist or a bigot. That still stings a bit.

9. She Doesn't Seem Athletic
I'd send John Edwards, who played wide receiver, in high school on a fly pattern and see how he does...

Edwards and Obama seem like the only athletic candidates in the race...

Ages ago here on the DU there was a thread about his playing horse....

That would be cool, a light hearted game of horse between Edwards and Obama

20. I have no clue
I bet either of them would have a hard time taking on Democrat Bill Bradley on the b-ball court, though :P

Don't know about Bill Richardson either (though I lived in NM). He was a baseball player....and I think he's been losing weight recently, so he's becoming a shadow of his former self.

We have lots of athletes on this side....was surprised to learn Howard Dean was a wrestler....

And addressing the difficulties in improving schools in poor and rural areas. These schools meet in the gymnasium. He plays basketball. His wife played basketball. His brother-in-law is a college basketball coach. I mean, wtf.

This is a good thing, despite some of the curious responses on this thread.

When the American public saw the Kennedy Clan playing football, it was a positive thing.

27. I haven't see the clip.....
....but does anyone really believe Barack had a problem with them taking the video and showing it on TV? Candidates live for this stuff.

I tell ya, the jumps in logic people make around here are enough to break your neck.

Of course, if they showed that he air balled ten in a row, the same folks would claim they were trying to embarass him.

35. We all love watching people shine under pressure.
which was my reaction to the OP - grace, under pressure. Good job, Obama. It's something we admire as Americans.

It's an important quality that can be exhibited in many ways. This was a more lighthearted one, and I for the life of me did not even think of race, exclusion, gender, expolitation, or anything until it was brought up in the thread.
