Anyone else feel like burning their bra?
A Baptist collage is offering a course on how to be a housewife/mother/slave. Since when do you have to pay mega bucks to learn this? I raised 4 children along with my husband, had a full time job, kept house, and everyone ate good meals. My roll models sucked but I raised some wonderful kids now in their 40's, my house was in order, my husband was taken care of in every way. Am retired now and have no regrets about anything I did as far as being a wife/mother/full time employee. It pissed me off to think you have to go to a Baptist school to learn this. Sorry for the rant - there are so many other things to be pissed about and I worry about the situation of the world all day every day. But this just brought me out of my shell.

Piece and love from an old hippie.

1. Classes for Dad?
Mowing the lawn on Saturday, smoking a pipe, calling son 'sport.' These are things people need to know.

I find that my bra is rather, um, useful.

I get your sentiment though.

If we don't get some support soon, people will think we're nuts.

>NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary offers coursework in Greek and Hebrew, in archaeology, in the philosophy of religion and — starting this fall — in how to cook and sew.

Southwestern Baptist, one of the nation's largest Southern Baptist seminaries, is introducing a new academic program in homemaking as part of an effort to establish what its president calls biblical family and gender roles.

It will offer a bachelor of arts in humanities degree with a concentration in homemaking. The program is open only to women.

Coursework will include seven credit hours of nutrition and meal preparation, seven hours of textile design and "clothing construction," three hours of general homemaking, three hours on "the value of a child," and three hours on the "biblical model for the home and family."

Seminary officials say the main focus of the courses is on hospitality in the home — teaching women interior design, as well as how to sew and cook. Women also study children's spiritual, physical and emotional development.<

I also wrote about it on my blog, if anyone's interested...

Hmm, I can't do all that. I don't want to, either.

15. My sisters in law both profess to be 'traditional, submissive' wives
And both of them have my brothers firmly in hand, by the short hairs...I am talking about in a very unhealthy way. It's sickening. They both bulldoze right over my brothers.

I remember finding Christian marital advice books for women in the BDSM section when I worked as a cataloger at Amazon. I always left them there because it seemed to make sense

32. yep.
I sat through a preacher preaching at both weddings about how the wife was supposed to submit and the husband was the ruler of the house and all that horseshit. And then both my brothers are treated essentially like wageslaves while both their wives have all the say and all the power. It's insane. I think xtianity is heavily influenced by BDSM even though it doesn't know it or admit it.

22. Personally, I'd tell him, "You first." Oh, and, "Fuck off."
It's underwear, which shouldn't be an issue to anyone other than the person wearing it, and it's uncomfortable for many, many women.

"Then I became a hairdresser and was quietly told by my very embarrassed male boss that I needed to wear one because my female coworkers were offended."

I'd tell them to fuck off too, to be honest.

24. It's a relic from a bygone age
and most of these women will find out how much the job pays and go into teaching it in high schools...after they get that teaching certificate, of course.

These sweet young things are taking a bunch of very big chances: that the husband will make enough money to afford a full time domestic servant, that the husband's job won't get offshored or the company won't go bust, that the husband won't decide to follow his penis after some other woman whose body has not been affected by childbirth and housework, and that the idea of a human being dedicating her whole life to a single household and never looking beyond it is a viable one, at all.

Then again, I know someone with a four degree in Russian literature who never learned a word of Russian, so I suppose there are worse majors out there. At least the homemaker grad will know how to cook.
