into tax exempt organizations.

When the Nation had laws, this sort of thing would matter. Not even close now.

This comes very close to child abuse, if you ask me.

"We like to control what they're exposed to". That sums it up quite well. It's all about control.

18. Yep. I've got a whole family of them living right next door.
Home schooled kids who think that humans lived with dinosaurs. Snotty kids who lectured me that I was a bad parent because my children are permitted to read Harry Potter. They can believe whatever they want, believe that the Flintstones is a documentary for all I care, but I get sick of them trying to shove their beliefs down everyone's throats.

Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 09:53 PM by Bluebear
Now that he's saying things like, "you don't want to be manipulated by a bunch of old people making money off destroying you," it's fair to look at how he, and others in his organization, make money off teenagers.

Teen Mania reported that, for the year that ended in August 2004, Ron and Katie Luce, combined, were paid $162,000, and the then-Chief Operating Officer, Rick Brenner was paid $180,455.

24. Zealots of all relgions can be dangerous.
Rationalizations to kill anyone that does not believe as they do is what makes them the most dangerous. Also, the tremendous amount of $$$ they raise to influence politicians is ominous. Most religious Zealots do not believe in democracy or representative Republic system of Govt. They believe in Theocracy with strong dictatorships governing the populace.

27. Did the show mention the Army of God?
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 10:22 PM by warren pease
In case it didn't, and you've never heard of them before, the “Army of God” was/is a small group of grimly repressed lethal misogynists who wrap themselves in noble-sounding religious twaddle and then set out to murder abortion docs, clinic workers and the like. Nobody has ever explained the concept of "pro-life murderer" to me so that I can understand it.

Back in October 2001, the Army of God was mailing envelopes containing “unidentified powdery substances and letters with threatening language” to various women’s reproductive health clinics around the country, according to an October 15 Reuters report, which was then quickly spiked in every mainstream media news room in America.

Ninety Planned Parenthood offices and at least 80 National Abortion Federation clinics across the country received such letters, sources said at the time. The envelopes were mailed from five different states. Each bore the accurate return address of local law enforcement agencies and was stamped “time sensitive security information enclosed.”

Which does in fact exhibit the characteristics of a well-coordinated campaign designed to scare the hell out of recipients and, if the powder actually had turned out to be anthrax bacteria, sicken or kill them – which is kinda the textbook definition of terrorism.

Amazingly, the Justice Dept. hasn't seen fit to go after them, even though they used to have the equivalent of a terrorist training manual on their web site. It's since been taken down, although I'm hoping it's been mirrored somewhere. If so, I'll post the URL here. Pretty sickening stuff.

I don't know why I happened to remember this. Your OP just flipped a brain cell or two and the Army of God popped into my head. Which is pretty scary when you think about it.

Here's a good summary of their ideology, activities and key players:

http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/violence/army_god.html

And here's a link to the page that describes the manual and lists its TOC, although most of the actual links to the manual take you to a tribute to executed abortion provider murderer Paul Hill.

33. The Army of God is what Amanpour's interview was all about
Very scary. I expect the three part segment will be rerun over the weekend.

They are organized. Very organized. The parents send their kids to this school for a year ($750/month). Some as young as ten. There are about 700 of these "student" warriors being indoctrinated per year.

Fundie warriors. Just another sign we are a third world country.

These murderous lunatics have had my attention for quite a while. I keep hoping Morris Dees can figure out some way to bankrupt them, just as he did with several state KKKs, along with the Aryan Nations up in Idaho.

Thanks for the tip,

Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 10:28 PM by LonePirate
What scares me the most about these people is their complete lack of rational thought. You cannot reason with them about anything unrelated to religion and you risk your life when your question their extremism. I'm fearful of what these people will do once we put a Dem back in the White House in the 2008 elections.

32. I caught most of Tuesday's episode
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 10:38 PM by fujiyama
on extremist Jews in Israel, but missed last night's episodes on Muslim fanatics.

I did see most of tonight's episode and thought the two I saw were very interesting. I hope they replay all the episodes again. I was surprised CNN produced something worth watching. Amanpour asked pretty good questions. Overall, after watching this series you'll probably get turned off all three religions...or religion in general.

That "Battle Cry" group looked really fucked up. It looked like a cult with a bunch of kids...and did they mention about 650 bucks a month? Wow. these people are banking. A bunch of real swindlers.

come from broken homes and have issues such as addiction. You see the same phenomenon in prisoners embracing religion. Replacing one vice / addiction with another.

The scenes in the stadium with the yelling and red flag waving and fireworks, head banging bands, are frightening. San Francisco of all places! I hope they get crushed. These people are insane.
