Sorry to come late to the party, but I must have missed something. Why is porn such a hot topic... |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 10:11 PM by pepperbear

Someone threw a bottle of Viagra in the Lounge Water Cooler and it spun out of control.

5. If you sort GD in order of number of posts |
|
you can see for yourself. To be honest, I missed it all too, and didn't feel like reading through it. But whatever happened, a lot of people had issues with it.

6. Someone posted a propaganda piece (anti-porn) |
|
masquerading as an academic article, in the context of a major Fed crackdown on the adult industry. Then all hell broke loose.

8. Hey, I agree with most of your posts about equality and rights |
|
but as a social scientist I take offense at the steaming pile of bullshit that Jensen called a study.

11. I don't think I can speak to the scholarly aspects of this subject... |
|
But I can say that every stripper I ever got to know, save one, ended up to be apparently possessed by Satan, or one of his lesser demons.
Is that germane to anything in this discussion? ;-)

15. I don't think porn or the sex industry are necessarily good |
|
or good for people. My only issues are
A. the timing and tenor of this anti-porn crusade is very similar to the anti-drug crusade that swept up liberals in the 80s
and
B. that Jensen article was crypto-rightwing pseudo-scientific propaganda of the highest degree
These two facts make me suspect that well-meaning DUers are being led on by the Reichwing to sign up for another big expansion of the police state.
I've dated a stripper and know the sad toll it can take on a woman's, uh, womanhood, for want of a better word... A lot of that flows from the semi-legality of the establishments they work in and the demand of a Puritanical society that their work be hidden from view.
In completely non-sequitur news, what do you think is the statistical probability that a one-dollar bill has spent part of its life in a stripper's panties? I'd say it's pretty fucking high.

That the only way to develop a meaningful database on that is to develop a device that scans for PPM's of perfume on the dollar bills. ;-)
As for the other part, most of the strippers I have known well enough to consider in the light of this conversation already had their issues firmly established before they started dancing. The realities of their job only firmed those issues up.
On the other hand, the single most together woman I have ever met, hands down, was a beautiful 19 year old worker at The Mustang Ranch, and no, I did not meet her...umm...professionally. She was wrapped tight, had clear goals, saved her money like a Swiss Gnome and was one hell of a great person. Wherever Charlie is today, I hope her life is endless and boundless happiness and she has exceeded every goal she set.

10. I guess either I missed the 'porn threads' or when I come onto this forum I look for news related |
|
articles and subconsiously block-out the 'porn threads'.
I leave the porn for 'another time, another place'... ;)

like hurricane season. Or March Madness. Or the Plague....
It's actually great sport and is considered vital prep for the upcoming Primary Wars.
BTW I actually think the threads ARE on Viagra as they get longer and longer each season before Threadus Interrrrruptus invariably takes place.
