"I just wanted to shake your hand. Thank you."
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 10:54 PM by Raster
I was in my local Costco this morning, checking out items in the butcher case when I felt someone poke me on the shoulder several times. I turned around to find a 50-something gentlemen looking me right in the eye. He said "there's a lot of us thinking about it and some of us are even talking about. And you're doing something about it. I just wanted to shake your hand. Thank you." I was wearing my Orange Revolution "IMPEACH Bush and Cheney" t-shirt. It brought tears to my eyes then, as it is doing now.

Good friends, good people, whatever it takes. Whatever we can do. No matter how great, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. We owe this to our country, to the planet, to our children and their children. And we owe this to ourselves.

This is my 5,000th post. Thank you Democratic Underground for providing a place for kindred spirits to shelter and grow strong.

And thank you.

3. It is important just getting the word out that there are plenty of people
who are in favor of impeachment.

There is so little in the media which allows people to know there is dissent.

4. I thank you, too.
For putting it out there for all to see. If only more of us would make that next step, no matter the repercussions. Who cares who we offend, I think it is time to make them offended. And make them think. Continue to fight the good fight.

Thanks again.

11. We are NOT alone. This country is craving change.
Another reaction I have encountered, and one that I did not expect, is people looking away in shame and guilt. The look is unmistakable. Shame and guilt for allowing this travesty to continue. Shame and guilt for allowing madmen to hijack our country and kill innocents. Shame and guilt for doing nothing. I think there are many frightened persons who wish they had the courage to speak up. It's up to us to continue to stand up and be counted. There is strength in numbers. We have the power.

Wake up America!:kick:

No we are not, not even here in Texas. I had an older gentleman comment on my DU sticker on the window of my truck. Led to about a five minute conversation. Said he would be checking this place out.

even act like they are offended. Mostly I get a lot of peace signs springing up high and smiles a mile wide. I think most of us know we are all in this boat together and we must do something.

13. I wore this Tshirt to Arlington Park Race Track last year, and a woman
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 11:17 PM by Gabi Hayes
whose boyfriend owned five horses racing there came up to me and started talking to me about the shirt, and how more people should be wearing it.

they clearly had a lotta cake, so I was surprised, to say the least. at first I thought she was going to call me a terra-ist, but it was a pleasant surprise.

several times I've come close to wearing it while flying, but I'm AFRAID to. there it. AFRAID to wear a fricking Tshirt on an airliner

what does that say?

here's the shirt--front:

back:

http://www.revolutionbooks.org/product-p/wantedformassmurder.htm

gonna start wearing it out and about more. there's an Ivan Neville concert tomorrow in Chicago, at Millenium Park. maybe I"ll go there....lots and lots of people

I love that shirt!

i live and work on an army base. i will do many many many pushups, for a shirt. i will be koalified, which involves hugging a rough tree suspended upside down till you pass out. which is a definition of fun most are not aware of.
sometimes, after living without certain freedoms, it aches to the core, to sit and watch and withhold support for desperately needed change. and truth. and then go to iragistan.
the weight soldiers carry would be enough to sway any balance.
is it strength or stupidity to imprison ones self with these mind-forged manacles?

34. my friend, we all have to work within the framework we have. would I endanger myself
like that on a military base. No. The proverbial beating one's head against a brick wall. The wise man appraises the situation and acts upon as he can. I suspect if the members of the military were allowed to really voice their honest opinion, most would express extreme dissatisfaction at the treatment accorded them by bush*/cheney*. Never before has the American Military been so used and thoroughly abused. This administration is NOT playing fair, nor honoring the long-standing covenant with America's Military Men and Women. You will be there to protect and defend, and we in turn we take care of your families at home. We will treat them as our own. We will provide the best medical care and NEVER forget your sacrifice. We as a country, have allowed bush*/cheney* to throw our obligation aside.

The point is to get the bare, unadulterated message in front of as many people as possible. The media will NOT carry the message. We must carry the message. We must be the message. FACT: More Americans now favor impeachment. You would never guess that watching the news nor reading a newspaper. The impeachment issue is PURPOSEFULLY obscured and ignored. It is up to us to show many others, just like the gentleman in Costco, that they are not alone! And thank you for the good words!

36. Great story, and it makes an important point
While the press continues to insist that mainstream America is conservative and against impeachment, this is not at all the case. Most middle class Americans also have liberal values. Too bad the Democratic "consultants" can't realize this.
Congratulations on your posts!

42. One would assume that the Democratic "consultants" would discern the will of the people
and point their candidates in that direction. THAT IS NOT THE CASE! Over and over again we see such "consultants" creating the message or obscuring our message with their own particular slant. They do NOT serve our best interests. They have their own agendas.

Wake up America!:kick:

46. ITA......
I wore my Camp Casey shirt in Costco and had a lady come up to shake my hand. My Fire the Liar button always gets a laugh. I have passed out Impeach Bush/Chaney stickers- so many in fact that I carry them in my purse, wallet, checkbook, agenda-you name it. I love to put them over those nasty W bumper stickers.

I am way past the point of giving a shit-and strangely, not much has happened. I figure those that avert their eyes feel guilty for voting the way they did. When we do have a demonstration, we love to count and see who has the most fingers flipped at them-and we laugh when they do shoot the bird (we never flip back-just laugh at their stupidity). The only time I ever flipped the bird was when we saw a suspicious van parked near by. Hey, if they are taking pictures-I want them to know exactly how I feel. Good thing I am not seeking higher office eh.

Congrats to ya. We're keeping it real in Texas.

37. K&R. Great story! Thanks for sharing it with us...
I know how you feel, when you get a pleasant surprise like this. I had perfect strangers come up to me before the 2004 election when I was wearing my Kerry buttons, saying that they agreed and wanting to talk. :-)

And I became friendly with a girl who works in a local store when I saw that she was wearing an anti-Bush* button. Whenever I stopped there, she wanted to talk. One time, she had a page from the Sy Hersh New Yorker article on Iran that she was assigned for one of her classes. I told her where to find the entire article and we were discussing it when an elderly man came up to us and was listening. I was a little leary, since I live in a red district and I've been accosted by Freepers before. But this man was very interested in our conversation and joined in. He said that we seemed to know quite a lot and he agreed, saying that they didn't get worse than Bush* and Cheney. I told him where to find the Sy Hersh article, too.:-)

Congratulations on your 5000th post, Raster, and keep up the great work! Here's to 5000 more!:toast:

He had a walker.

He said. "I've seen fascists before. I didn't do anything the last time. I'm not waiting around again hoping things will get better."

He didn't want to get into specifics of his personal story.

But he was very happy with making calls and stamping envelopes.

40. Great story, Raster!
I love wearing my anti-boosh tee's & get great responses!

Just a few weeks ago I had on a tee with boosh behind bars & the words: IMPEACH - It's time. My husband & I were at the grocery store & the front end was crowded. I was reading a magazine when the woman in the line next to me leaned over & said, none to quietly, "It's past time!" What was really satisfying was listening to others chime in with their agreement.

I also keep a bumper sticker or two in the back window of my truck. You are right that we can never stop spreading the message in any way that we can. Never.
