Peace Protester Spreads Message at VFW Convention

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Security at the 2007 VFW National Convention is tight because of the dignitaries coming into Kansas City. As of Monday, there were no major problems, no major protests.

Officers directed traffic and kept the peace at nearly every intersection. At 13th & central, Henry Stoever was promoting peace with a poster.

Normally Stoever practices law at 47th & Troost but this week he has cleared his calendar to become the poster protester.

Stoever protested during Vietnam and for Ceasar Chavez and farm workers. His message has always been the same: "No real winners in war but there are real losers, the poor." Stoever hopes the candidates who have come to speak will see his message. But he wants to make it clear this isn't a political protest.

Stoever will be back on his corner Tuesday and Wednesday, when he hopes President Bush will get a look at his message.
