ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 7-month-old infant was found dead in the heat of a parked car Thursday near the Washington University School of Medicine, authorities said. Hours later, a 2-year-old toddler was found dead in a vehicle in a suburb of Cincinnati.

Authorities said the 7-month-old's parents are a doctor and a medical researcher at the university. Their names and the child's name have not been released.

On a day when the temperature reached the upper 90s, a woman spotted the baby, called 911 and broke the car window, police Capt. James Gieseke said. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The child had been in the car for three hours, Gieseke said. It's believed the mother left the child in the back seat of the father's car, but that the father thought the mother had taken the child.

"There was a horrible, devastating mix-up as to who was going to take the child to day care," Gieseke said.

1. Upscale couple - bet they aren't charged.
There was a story recently about the difference in justice in these cases. Poor Latino - got heavy jail time. Upscale father - it was a tragic mistake and he life went on uninterrupted, had another kid.

5. I'll bet you're right.
If I EVER SEE A BABY/CHILD in this situation I promise before God and DU I will break one of those windows (away from the baby's face) myself. Let them sue me. I could give a shit, as long as the baby is O.K.

6. I'd do it for a dog or a cat, if it was a kid, watch out..
If I saw a dog or a cat dying of heatstroke in a car, I'd break a window no problem.

8. To be fair, the ones who actually forget the kid was left in the car
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 12:33 AM by lizzy
seem to get off. The ones who knew the kid was left in the car, but had to go to work, or get their hair done, or get their nails done, or whatever, usually go to jail. The poor ones tend to be the ones who knew the kid was left in the car. The rich ones tend to forget the kid in the car. Frankly, I think that ones who forget the kid in a car should at least be charged with some sort of negligent homicide. The kid is just as dead, regardless.

7. What a horrible situation.
I doubt that no amount of negative opinions will come close to the pain and shame that they will feel and live with for the rest of their lives.

10. People remember to take their car keys
and lock the door but forget the babies.

Can't someone manufacture a retractable string attaching the freaking car keys to the carseat? How about a self-timed pressure sensitive alarm under the carseat?

There has GOT to be something parents could use to prevent these heart breaking deaths.

13. How about the parents just look in the back of the freaking car?
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 12:49 AM by lizzy
How hard could it be to make sure the kid is not in a car?
Maybe the car seat should play music or something.

18. Father (who left kid in car) now ties seatbelt to car seat for new kid
The story I referred to earlier (upscale couple who left kid in car to die in heat, have a new baby now), the father says he now ties his seatbelt to the carseat in someway.

17. A very sad situation. I wonder how much of the truth we are even getting from our lying media?
How do we know how much of this is true and how much is not?

Really.

Ask yourself.

Look at what the media has lied to us about. The biggest events in our history. JFK assassination, probably all the wars, the true history of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, oh yes, that lovely war that is killing our men and women and slaughtering hundreds of thousands of residents of Iraq, the Vietnam war, the MLK assassination, Bobby Kennedy.

What has the media actually been honest about?

How would we know since the biggest events in our history have been intentionally covered up by the corporate/patriarchal media.

The media is essentially a machine to spill out distraction, sensationalistic stories.

How can we know what to believe and what not to believe?
