How do you answer somebody who thinks Iraq was responsible for 9/11?

Two things I can come up with right off:

--15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis.

--Paul O'Neill, who was Treasury Sect. when Bush first took office, says in THE PRICE OF LOYALTY that the Bush gang was hot to invade Iraq right after Bush took office--long before 9/11.

Any others?

1. ask them what facts
they are basing their statements on. seems to me the burden of proof lies on them, not you.

2. That's a good response
If they are a rush programmed follower they will bring up Czechoslovakia maybe - but at this point that's not very credible.

37. That was my
first thought. People that believe that are so full of the Kool Aid that you'll never convince them other wise. The only thing to do is point them in the right direction by asking for facts that support that position. Hopefully, when they start stuttering to come up with something they will snap.

Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 08:48 AM by HughBeaumont
"Doen't matter. They're all the same."

Then you end the conversation.

But really, that is a good start. Ask them how it logically makes sense to attack two nations that never did any harm to one American citizen in response to a terror attack carried out by citizens whose home country also happens to be our business/oil ally?

Ask them how if feels to have someone else tell you what to think

Look up at the sun and ask them what direction it is going as it circles the earth.

Ask them why they hate the truth

tell them, how could that be, bush is responsible for 9-11, he let it happen so morons like you could lie about it 6 years later.

11. I agree with the poster above who said to have them provide documentation
of their claim. They made a statement of fact, let them back it up. In general, I usually don't bother trying to have political discussions with people who are that misinformed anymore. John Dean's book, Conservatives Without Conscience, made me realize that trying to reason with 29 percenters is like trying to talk to a wall.

15. "15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis"
A little off topic, but 2 of the hijackers carried passports from the UAE. Recently, Halliburton moved its headquarters to Dubai and the UAE was considered for taking over management of the USA's ports. Only this week it was announced that Dubai was investing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

So 17 of the 19 hijackers, who killed 3,000 Americans on 9/11, are from countries that (1)support terrorism; (2) had/will have considerable influence into the operation of the USA; (3)have ties to the Bush Family/Bush administration.

Yet, we invade Iraq and murder almost a million of its citizens.

How Bush and his ilk can get away with this is beyond me...

And, BTW, Bin Laden hated Saddam and thought he was an ifidel and heretic, and Saddam was more afraid of Bin Laden than he was of the US.

I simply back-hand them across the mouth and exclaim as their groceries hit the parking lot, "Stop FUCKING UP MY COUNTRY"! Yeah, it's gotten to that point now. I can no longer reason with shit-for-brains. This should be our rebuttal to every right-wing talking point. Simply reply, "Shut the fuck up"! Don't even engage in debate with them anymore. They are too mentally vapid to get it. It's too late. All we can do now is dismiss them. "I'm sorry, I don't speak Hill-Billy". That's another I've used recently.

38. Tell 'em what the emperor himself said:
On Sept. 17, 2003: "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 11 September attacks," Mr Bush told reporters as he met members of Congress on energy legislation." Which is easy enough to memorize and recite, just before slapping the shit out of them.

Full story here: http://tinyurl.com/9q2m9

And a related article here listing public statements by BushCo liars that the two were linked: http://tinyurl.com/on1q

Article on a Bush speech given on 9/11/06: <<<The president conceded some crucial ideological ground, formally disavowing the neo-conservative accusation that Saddam had played a role in the attacks on September 11 2001. But he was unapologetic about the decision to invade Iraq.

"I am often asked why we are in Iraq when Saddam Hussein was not responsible for the 9/11 attacks," Mr Bush said. "The answer is that the regime of Saddam Hussein was a clear threat. My administration, the Congress, and the United Nations saw the threat - and after 9/11, Saddam's regime posed a risk that the world could not afford to take.

"The world is safer because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power.">>>

Full story here: http://tinyurl.com/fsnjz

As FAIR notes, these admissions of blatant administration lying went almost unreported in the US media. Fox denied BushCo ever attempted any linkage, of course, the WaPo and Christian Science Monitor ran stories on the "disconnect" between the two versions of the story, CNN briefly mentioned the 9/17/03 statement, and everybody else did the usual deaf, dumb and blind routine. Shocking.
