7. thanks
i've sent out 20 or 30 resumes from craigslist so far. the only responses i've received want me to send them money. i have some connections out there in the design industry (it was a chance remark from a customer where i currently work that led to my making this move), and if need be i'll work multiple part time jobs or whatever.

2. Awww -- we'll mis you
But I can understand wanting to get out of SoCal. Why NC, if I may be so rude as to pry....

6. i'm not leaving DU!
my rent was raised another $200 - to where i could no longer afford the place i've lived in for 10 years. here in los angeles the rents are out of sight - and we have 2 cats and a dog, making it even less likely that we could find a place to live. a chance phone call at work put the thought in my head, one of my best friends lives there...as far as i can tell, if i can find a job making 75% or more of what i earn right now, my son and i can live twice as well.

i never thought i'd leave SoCal - been here my entire life almost 52 years. but it seems to be time.

Everybody seems to be leaving

12. yeah, it's really bittersweet for me
in a number of aspects. but i think after being born, raised and spending 52 years of my life here, i'll probably always be californian no matter where i may land geographically

3. Ugh. You have my sympathies.
As someone who went from Blue to Red state a few years ago, you'll need all the support you can find.

8. $$$$
need i say more? i can get a decent place in Raleigh for half of what i could get it for here in a neighborhood where my 15-year-old would be dodging bullets on his way to and from school. in CA i have to be on the coast - and on the coast in CA is expensive. plus: people.

9. NC is a great place.
Job opportunities are good in the Research Triangle area,
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill. With 2 universities in the area,
NCSU (North Carolina State University) and UNC at Chapel Hill, there
are all sorts of educational related jobs.
Check the Craigslist like the previous poster.
The News and Observer is one of the newspapers for the Raleigh area,
you can check it out online..

13. There are lots of Universities in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area...
North Carolina State University, Meredith College, Peace College, St. Augustine's College, Shaw University, and Wake Technical College, are all located in Raleigh.

Duke University and North Carolina Central University in Durham.
University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina is a great place to live. If you settle in Raleigh, you are midway between the beach and the mountains(We drive from Raleigh to Wilmington in less than 2 hrs).

The Research Triangle Park is loaded with high tech companies.

And North Carolina has a Democratically controlled Legislature.

14. ooops...
Brain fart - I left out so many...was just thinking about the
big 2 'Carolina Us' without thinking.

I am halfway between Raleigh and the beach at Ocean Isle. It is
62 miles from our house to our beach house.
