For the first time ever, I had to turn off the teevee
The sentencing of John Couey for the murder of Jessica Lunsford is being carried live by MSNBC.

They're reciting the details of her murder.

I always thought I was a pretty tough old guy.

I just can't bear to listen to this.

3. First time?! You're a much better man than I am.
I've essentially cut everyone off except a very few outlets that I can count on not to make my head explode.

5. This happened in my neck of the woods
I've had to see that asswipe's face on the front page of my newspaper every day this week. The paper actually ran an interview of his aunt, after she visited him in prison. All about how he feels about the possible death sentence.

Like I care what that slug feels.:puke:

10. This "judge" is being extremely cruel to the father and other relatives of
Jessica to repeat the gruesome details of her suffering over and over and over again. IMO he is no better than her torturer and murderer.

Who the hell puts these perverts on the bench to strut upon their stage as some superior beings?

Just announce the damn sentence already and be done with it!

11. If he's passing down a DP sentence, he has to review
all of the pertinent issues in the case in the court, I think.

14. A-men!!!!! This is enough to make any sane person
want to puke!!!!!! I am so glad that I was not called to be a juror on this case! The poor Lunsford family. I hope and pray that they are on the most powerful drugs on the face of this earth. But why do I feel a twinge of sympathy for the mentally sick Cooyey??? It makes me sick to hear the defense arguments about his childhood???? No matter!!! He deserves to be murdered for the crime he committed and I am against the death penalty ( I think). This is so sickening I can not barely watch. My self imposted judgment regarding child abusers is going to watch this whole thing for Jessica, Marc and her grandparents.

15. The Judge seemed to have a VERY hard time.
Usually I do not approve of our legal justice system ( esep. in Fla.). I feel sorry for the judge having to read that! He barley made it through the reading.

17. Its over. He got the Death Penalty
I am, as usual, torn and ambivalent about the Death Penalty.

The logical side of me is opposed to it. Were I forced to vote on it in the abstract, I would be opposed.

I hear of cases like this and I can see a reason why we might have it. Who would have thought there could be a Calvinist streak in an Italian boy from the liberal northeast US?

Nothing is simple. Nothing is black and white.
