Governor's budget to cut help for homeless
Matthew Yi, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau

Friday, August 24, 2007

(08-24) 11:22 PDT Sacramento -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to line out $55 million for services to homeless adults with serious mental illnesses when he signs the new state budget today.

The cut is expected to be part of the governor's promise to Senate Republicans to use his line-item veto power to erase about $700 million from the $145 billion spending plan for the current fiscal year in exchance for their support of the budget bill.

Details of Schwarzenegger's cuts will be revealed when he signs the budget at noon at the state Capitol. The budget-signing ceremony will be Webcast at www.gov.ca.gov.

The nearly 2-month-long budget impasse ended Tuesday when the budget received the required two-thirds vote in the upper house of the Legislature after two Senate Republicans agreed to support the state's spending plan for 2007-08. The Assembly had approved the budget in July.

1. In a related story, money for seriously mentally ill adults in the governor's mansion is safe.

6. I wonder what his wife and her family think of this?
He is despicable. I'd rather celebrate a holiday alone than share a dinner table with the likes of someone who screws people with mental illness.

7. It's very simple...
Mentally ill homeless people don't vote. This is what they get for being helpless!

I'm so ashamed of my native state (for electing Arnie) that I doubt I'll ever go there again!
