Colbert--well, the character he plays on The Colbert Report--wouldn't have a job if he didn't have a "self-created cult of personality"--that's what makes him funny.

Colbert knows perfectly well that his cast isn't worth a plugged nickel, but by donating the proceeds to charity, his character gets to pretend that it's HIM, not the cause, that the bidders are gathering around. He is VERY much a figment of his own imagination--just like the real-life news pundits he satirizes!

but as far as the cast I'm glad its gone - I was growing weary of the cast/wrist stuff - the first 500 times were funny but really ENOUGH ALREADY
