Insightful author interviews
Saturday 9 PM, Sunday 6 PM and 9 PM ET

*This is a DU Must-See!*

Attorney Scott Gant argues that in this Internet age Americans need to rethink how we define journalism and how we decide who qualifies as a "journalist." Mr. Gant asserts that bloggers and others who he terms "citizen journalists" follow in the tradition of early pamphleteers such as Thomas Paine, and that they should be afforded the same legal rights and privileges as traditional journalists. He is interviewed about his book by Peter Prichard, president of the Newseum and former editor of USA Today.

Weekend Highlights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yuri Felshtinsky, Blowing Up Russia: The Secret Plot to Bring Back KGB Terror
Yuri Felshtinsky argues that Russian president Vladimir Putin is using the Russian secret service to preserve his power and transform Russia back into an authoritarian state. Mr. Felshtinsky says that the secret service planned bombings and other attacks, which were then blamed on Putin's enemies, including Chechen separatists. He also says that his co-author, former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko, was poisoned to death in London in 2006 for collaborating on the book.
(Saturday 8 PM, Sunday 11 AM ET)
Elizabeth Borgwardt, A New Deal for the World
From the 2007 Roosevelt Reading Festival, Elizabeth Borgwardt discusses the thought process behind New Deal organizers. She argues that for the first time, the interests of the people were placed before the interests of national governments.
(Sunday 6:30 AM ET)
Karen Abbott, Sin in the Second City: Madams, Ministers, Playboys, and the Battle for America's Soul
Karen Abbott recounts the history of Chicago's Everleigh Club, a brothel operated by sisters who paid their employees well and tutored them in fine arts. The clientele included Theodore Dreiser, Prussian Prince Henry, and John Barrymore. The author discusses her book with Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune.
(Sunday 12 PM ET)
Elizabeth Kantor, The Politically Incorrect Guide to English and American Literature
In her book, Elizabeth Kantor contends that teachers and professors have limited their teaching material to subjects supported by mainstream culture instead of providing students with the means to formulate their own opinions. According to the author, professors neglect to present students with evidence of strong female characters in literature.
(Sunday 3 PM ET)
Ron Paul, Dinesh D'Souza, Larry Abraham, Doug Casey, FreedomFest 2007 Foreign Policy Panel
A panel including Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), Dinesh D'Souza, Larry Abraham, and Doug Casey debated United States Foreign Policy at FreedomFest 2007 in Las Vegas.
(Monday 2 AM ET)
7. I use that. But, in general, if you "copy image location"
with a right click or, go right to the location where the image is, and paste that addy, it's always been fine. But I noticed that about a month ago, it's not fine.
Maybe I'll ask Elad what the heck is going on because that broken link thing is uggg lee.
You have to dump the img tag.
This is what happens when you post an image that is bookended with < img > and < /img >
but if I delete the tags at either end, I get this:
16. Today's picks...
The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution and The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History
Authors: Kevin Gutzman; Thomas Woods
In "The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution," Kevin Gutzman argues there are major differences between the Constitution as it was ratified and the Constitution as it is enforced today. Mr. Gutzman contends states are more limited in their power than originally intended. He also argues that it is wrong for appointed judges, instead of elected officials, to be making publicly enforced policies.
Thomas Woods, author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History," dissects common interpretations of American history and argues the authenticity of previous historical arguments. Mr. Woods presents alternative interpretations of controversial historical moments, like the reasoning behind the Civil War and the side effects of New Deal programs.
Sammy's House
Author: Kristin Gore
In this event from the Commonwealth Club, Kristin Gore, daughter of Al and Tipper Gore, discusses her upbringing as the daughter of a Vice President, including how she coped with secret service protection and her father's unsuccessful 2000 campaign for president. Kristin Gore drew on her experiences in Washington in writing her new novel, "Sammy's House," about a White House health care adviser.
My power utility reminds me and my neighbors of their importance to our lives by conducting their quarterly outages.
Friday was one of those days. It went over so well with us that they stretched the outage well into Saturday.
29. Three cheers for infrastructure preventive maintenance programs.
This outage occurred between the same two power poles as an interruption of service two years ago.
In that case, one of the three wires on the pole fell to the ground. They replaced the fallen wire. And everything worked.
Yesterday, the other two wires (running between the same two poles) fell to the ground. And nothing worked. Except for my land line phone.
America, ... more and more like Baghdad every day.
