What will eventually end mankind?
What with all the super cheerful threads here I thought I would inject a little more levity..

What are your thoughts, I have more exotic ones but heres's a few to start with.

Biosphere collapse after oceanic die off mid century?

Asteroid impact?

Deliberate asteroid impact?

Genetic experiment gone unexpectedly awry?

Nuclear war?

Bio war?

Eventually the sun will turn red giant and everything out to Mars will be history.

Jesus comes back, who gets what? "Jesus is coming, and boy is he seriously upset".

Mankind will end mankind. The planet will go on without us until the sun goes supernova.

48. Correction to short answer . . ..
Mankind will end mankind -- via Global Warming/pollution.

and the planet will not go on without us --

Our destruction is so thorough that it looks like we'll be talking down this beautiful blue planet.

It will not keep turning and there will be no way for nature, animal life to recover here.

12. Robert Frost explained it for me
Fire and Ice

Some say the world with end in fire
Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire,
I go with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice
I'd say that hate is also great
And will suffice

(from memory, so not all words may be correct)

20. It is doubtful mankind will end
Civilization may collapse for any number of reasons. Global warming. Nuclear winter. Superflu. Asteroidal or cometary impact. Housing market dissolves. US defaults on $9 trillion dollars of debt. Mega solar flare.

But there will always be a few humans left to start over.

Only the largest events will be able to sterilize the planet and kill ALL the humans, along with just about everything else. All other events would leave a few million or a few hundred thousand survivors to come back.

Humanity will destroy the environment, then tear itself apart in increasingly violent wars for control of ever diminishing resources. Eventually some super virus will wipe out the few pitiful survivors.

Cheery 'eh?

and to at least SEEM like i'm paying attention in class....

any war will probably leave a handful of humans somewhere. of course the nuclear winter may be a real bitch.

but our corporate masters, in an effort to wring maximum profit out of minimal investment, will create, then accidentally release THE super bug. carried on the winds, no one will be safe.

OR

religous fundamentalists of all stripes will gain the upper hand, and god will smite it's planet like a love bug smashing against the windshield of a luxury sedan, speeding across paynes prarie on I-75, during a hot summer florida day...

mankind will end mankind. we destroy a lot more efficiently than we create.

69. Complete Extinction?
There will be an extinction level asteroid or comet impact at some point on Earth, and Bruce Willis probably won't be around to save us.

There's also going to be viruses that could destroy most, but still leave a few humans around.

Barring those things, and the attendant collapse of technilogical advancement, I'd have to go with Grey Goo.
