Do your schools perform drug tests and searches? |
|
I've been wondering about the schools in your area's and their drug policies.
A few public schools in my area that my friends attend have some strict policies. Most of them have metal detectors, cameras and every once in while, will bring in drug dogs and do locker searches.
A few months ago, one of the schools had a pretty huge bust. A group of about six kids got caught with a few pounds of weed (I don't know the true numbers. From my friends, I've heard anywhere from a quarter pound to 5 pounds).
Also, some are now doing drug testing (some are limited to those on academic probation however).
So, what are the situations in your area, and what consequences do your schools have?

1. No testing. We can do searches whenever we want, |
|
and do one or two searches a year.
Our students know that we have their locker combinations and can search them at any time. We don't do random searches; if we are searching, we are looking for something specific.

2. it has been a long time since I was in school |
|
but drug testing was selectively done to make sure they wouldn't find anything... for our consistant "drug free status" we were supposed to get a visit from Nancy Reagan herself and some d-list celeberities - but she stood us up.
though at my old high school today I think that membership in a school sanctioned club or team requires a drug test - otherwise only if your suspected on using drugs. I don't think they do the prison lock-down gestapo routine.

3. Igo to a downtown Catholic school. We have cams and intercom door locks |
|
(The locks are effective from like 9-3).
They don't really do any drug tests or searches. However, I'm pretty sure this is because they have some crappy expulsion policy if you refuse 'treatment', and they don't want to lose money. And the fact that about 30% of the school would test positive, lol. . .
