Help! Donating to DU now requires my Phone Number? |
|
I just tried donating to DU...been here a long time...and now I'm being asked for my phone number. It's unlisted...I don't give it out...yet form doesn't allow me to donate without it.
As a long time donor to DU I wondered why I have to give my phone number. Is there some way to get around this? I am paying by Credit Card.
 Anyone else have a problem with this?

Or you can mail in a donation, too. Pay by check or money order.
Try this number. It's for the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas.

30. Thanks...I decided to find my own number... |
|
didn't want to cause a fellow DU'er trouble so I picked a "stranger's phone number" and I still feel bad about it. That I would have to pick some unsuspecting soul to give a phone number to so I could give MONEY to Democratic Underground...isn't what I ever thought this site would become.
Shame on Admins for not catching that many of us are "PRIVACY FREAKS" for GOOD REASON..in these DARK TIMES!
Thanks to all who gave me their own tips for Phone #'s.. I couldn't do it so...used a stranger......:-(

16. I'm sure they could find it on Google...but it's the principle of unlisted phone numbers |
|
being violated on DU since I've been donating since 01 was what is upsetting. :-(

18. It may just be a requirement for an online credit card authorization |
|
I have purchased many things online and you have you use your phone number associated with the account and your zip code. Like some advised, send a check. Or if your checks are pre-printed send a money order.

been optional. Skinner knows my *e-mail" from when I log in every day...But to be "Carded" really made me upset.

That's the point of this post. I've never been asked for my Phone Number and my E-Mail is the IP Address they already have in their files since '01 when I JOINED DU and first DONATED.

20. just a thought, maybe you can contact your credit card company |
|
let them know you're trying to donate on line and that you don't feel comfortable giving your number. Maybe they'll have an alternate way or number for you to use. But I know the approval process of most credit cards on line tie your billing address and phone number to the approval process.

At least it doesn't in my case. The number my credit card co. has is my prior work number. I give on-line order companies a made up number.

29. Okay...I try to be an "honest person" (whatever that means today) and so I |
|
took my phonebook out an gave a number from my Zip because I REFUSE TO GIVE...EVEN DU!...my UNLISTED PHONE #!!! This crap about "Name, Rank and Serial Number" has GOT TO STOP!
I can't believe your Credit Card and Name and Address isn't ENOUGH THESE DAYS! DATA MINING/SPYWARE! and even our Lefty Liberal Sites are FORCING THEIR USERS TO COMPLY!!!!!!!!!
DISGUSTIN!!! !DISGUSTIN~! I don't pay for "unlisted phone" to give it out to any damned site when they already have my address and a VALID CREDIT CARD!
I just resistered using a fake phone # from some unsuspecting person from the phone book. Hope to Heck this person doesn't start to get Phone Polls/Push Polls and the OTHER CRAP because DU wouldn't allow me to get my STAR BACK...until I gave them a PHONE #!
I wouldn't expect a Democratic Website to act like THIS....When I've been donating for YEARS!
So...I made it up...I guess they will give me the "Granite Cookie" for this.

I thought what I said would concern alot of folks here. Maybe Skinner had a hard time getting fast donations because folks didn't want to "SHOW THEIR PAPERS" for credit card beyond what other sites ask.
