Death threats in the Nugent video?
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=757_1187963465

I watched it twice. I can not identify death threats being made against anyone. I did hear him say "suck on this" while holding a rifle up. I did hear him say "ride off into the sunset on this". It wasn't clear what he said about Diane Feinstein.

I believe he is well within his rights to free speech from the video I watched. Free speech includes the right to look like a total idiot which is all I saw.

Can anyone identify a death threat being made? I am not defending the loser, just wondering what I missed.

3. My point exactly.
I don't know why people are taking it so seriously. The guy is a has-been rock "star" who is also a blowhard.

12. He also claims to have always been clean & Sober.
He gives those that enjoy the herb from time to time a good name! See what living a clean and sober life does to your head?

4. Anyone waving around a gun and naming names is encouraging death threats.
Nugent is a little pricked child rapist and madman in the true sense of the word.

5. So it was an implied threat?
I watched the thing twice trying to see what the fuss was about. I was just wondering what I missed.

6. Nugent wouldn't shoot anybody. He doesn't have the balls.
But he'd love to see one of his repug admirers take a shot.

10. I see your point.
He is inciting an assassination. You know there has to be a couple of pathetic losers who think he is some sort of god or whatever you want to call it. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss his actual death threat. The audio is kind of bad when he talks about Sen. Feinstein.

7. I agree w/ you
I think Teddy's an ass... but he has every right to be an ass.

The idea that there should be some witch hunt against Nuggent for this kinda scares me.

One way to look at it is that Ted is sort of doing us a service... I pretty much know that anybody I see wearing a Nuggent shirt is an idiot.
I don't have to talk to them to figure it out.

13. But, since his intended victim was not present.....
...it was just Nugent being the blowhard a-hole he has always been. He has done the same thing numerous times in the past. I just didn't hear the (direct) death threat and thought I had missed it.

18. You do know he has been saying shit like that for years, right?
I remember seeing a video of him threatening Senator Feinstein in the same manner years ago. That's what Nugent does, he plays to the crowd. I really think people are wasting their time worrying about it. Talking about boycotting his venues and trying to get shows cancelled. It HELPS him. Nobody would have thought twice about him unless he did something like that.

23. I don't think that's relevant - particularly in the case of a presidental candidate.
After all, the President is virtually never present when threats are made, but they are investigated just the same.

16. Either it was a euphemism for sucking his dick, or it was a threat. Neither makes him look good.

I just didn't see a direct death threat. He has been doing the same thing for years.

20. It doesn't need to be direct and spelled out, does it?
Edited on Sat Aug-25-07 08:00 PM by treestar
Crazy people aren't known for being clear and level headed.

There is a crime called "terroristic threatening," and plenty of case law on it, since people makes these sorts of threats in all kinds of ways. There's a case in my state where defendant was found guilty of TT for saying "Do you want to live?" That's not a direct threat to kill, but it is implied.

You don't have to actually intend to kill the person but to put them in credible fear of it.

So his words and the gun aren't hard to see as a case. I bet some prosecutor could argue it and make a good case that it was a threat. You could defend him by exploiting the ambiguity, but probably not on the ground he does not make the threat directly. He doesn't have to say, "I'm planning on killing her." Just make what seems to be a threat to a reasonable person. If I were his lawyer, I'd argue that his doing it on stage meant it was a form of performance art or entertainment not likely to inspire fear in Hillary, et al and that a reasonable person in Hillary's position would not think he wanted to kill her.

25. The "show" must go on.
I have to assume that he has at least minimal legal counsel. The video was shot in California? What are the chances that those things were props?

Here is a partial transcript:

I was in Chicago last week -- I was in Chicago; I said, 'Hey Obama, you might wanna suck on one of these, ya punk!' <unintelligible> Obama, he's a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun -- lets hear it for him! And then I was in New York; I said 'Hey Hillary, you might wanna ride one of these into the sunset, ya worthless bitch!'

Now, since I'm in California, I'm gonna find Boxer -- she might wanna suck on my machine gun! Hey, Dianne Feinstein, ride one of these you worthless whore!

Any questions? Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom!

He directly threatens Boxer and Feinstein, saying he's "gonna find" them, so he can introduce them to his little friend. He also talks about how great it felt (or would feel*) to threaten Obama and Clinton with a machine gun. This may not be as clear cut a threat as the other two, but a meta-threat is still a threat.

* impossible to tell from this, whether he's bragging about actual threats he made to Obama/Clinton, or how good it would feel to threaten them directly.

I can see your point about the "I'm gonna find" part. Thats the part I couldn't make out too well.

24. That's a far cry from what "the Nuge" did to Janet Reno
When the former AG voiced her support for a national ban on semi-automatics, he performed at a concert where he unveiled a fake .50-cal machine gun and shouted, "Janet Reno, kiss my ass!" The band then performed a song called Kiss My Ass apparently in honor of Reno.

But what Ted did in the video - again, if he said any of that about Herr Decider, is there any doubt that he'd already be in Guantanamo right now?

26. So true, remember those cases of high school kids making
posters perceived as anti-Bush and the Secret Service descending upon them? A couple of years ago cases like that kept popping up.

He hasn't been right in the head for some time.

I think Jello did a good job ripping on him in his "The Big Kaboom" CD set.
