Bette Davis on Ronnie Reagan |
The devine Miss D always the grande dame: "Little Ronnie Reagan! Well, we never took him seriously, and now they expect me to call him Mr. President!"

1. I recently saw a fabulous old interview with Ms. Davis and Li'l Dickie Cavett. |
She was a very charming diva.
And the remark you cite is right on the money!

2. I have that interview. It's part of a box set DC put out of Hollywood greats |
and features Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Welles, Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas and others. Just the Hepburn and Davis interviews are worth the price.

3. I worked on the last Academy Awards show that Ms Davis |
went to. I was pulling cable and during rehearsal Ms Davis had a heck of a time getting through all that cable to get to the mike. My supervisor said "if she needs any help, you help her". Scared the shit out of me and I watched her like a mamma dog watches her puppies. There is no doubt in my mind that if she fell flat on her face and I reached out to help her, she would have said "Get the Hell away from me". I was shaking like a leaf, but she made it to the mike without any help from me. Great lady and intimidating as Hell.
