My Senator, Dick Durbin, took off his socks and shoes, rolled up his pants and toured Des Plaines
flooded areas today. Didn't he get the memo? He's suppose to take a helicopter! Why on earth would he lower himself to tromp through dirty, yucky water to view his constituent's flooded homes when he has access to a perfectly good helicopter he could use to see the damage from a distance in the air? :sarcasm:

They showed Durbin on the news tonight with his pants rolled up, walking through the flood waters with the Mayor. When was the last time you saw a repuke do this? Did Vitter do this after Katrina? How about Voinovich in Ohio? There's many places under water in Ohio right now.

I just thought it would be fun to share. Durbin's the REAL DEAL. If you want to see him, he's in this clip at 1:23 minutes into the story:

What a guy, eh?:loveya:

1. Great for Durbin!
Voino wasn't out in Ohio, but our new senator Sherrod Brown visited flooded areas with Gov. Ted Strickland. Sherrod visited the areas in his home county near Mansfield, OH.

Next day, Gov. Strickland had Cherthoff and FEMA in the state helping out.

We're going to have to tell Sherrod he needs to do Durbin one better next time there's a flood ;)

2. That's my old neighborhood he was wading through
I also saw him on the news and it was great seeing him slog along through the muddy waters of the Des Plaines River as it overflowed through the homes of Des Plaines.

Pretty neat.

4. My sister lives in Virginia and asked me the other day, "Can you please tell me why Dick Durbin
isn't running for President?" She said she thinks he's the MOST SANE politician in Washington DC.:)

He's a great guy.

10. NO! I wouldn't want that job! I wouldn't take it for any amount of money!
I pity the next President. Maybe that's why Pelosi won't Impeach? SHE doesn't want the job either? I'm beginning to wonder if that is part of why she's ignoring our Impeachment cries.

11. I don't know Mrs. Durbin. I've never even seen the lady. I did meet Dick though.
He's so sweet. Soft spoken. Kind. Just like he comes across on TeeVee.

So his wife hates repukes? I've gotta meet that woman!!! We'd be best of friends because I hate them more than I could possibly say!:7

18. Loretta Durbin.
She runs a program called Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership, through the Illinois Democratic Women.

It is a very effective program for creating female leaders at the grassroots level. It takes only about twelve women at a time, from across the state. One of our officers went to the program last year. She has done some very good things in our county and district since returning from the program.

23. She sounds just as wonderful as he is! What a great couple.
We in Illinois are lucky to have them.:)

I remember Dick talking about how the wacko nut job RWers were calling his home and threatening Loretta over something he said on the Senate floor. Can't remember what is was about...maybe the Gitmo/Gulag remark? Can't recall, but whatever it was, is no reason to threaten his wife!

16. he was scheduled in florida all day. with the way these primaries are
the candidates have to pack the schedules and be everywhere. they can't take off to tend to things like this.
maybe if we did not have it all packed into one time at the beginning of the year these guys could take off and stuff.
