Right wing religious leaders still active...some getting higher profiles.
The attempt to turn our country into a theocracy is still alive and well. Some of the names be may changing, but they appear to be active especially at state levels...even if they are not prominent nationally often.

Dobson’s Low Profile Hides Focus on the States

Following the rejection of the Right’s political agenda in the last election, there have been a number of news articles written in recent months about a potential split emerging within the evangelical political community, with newer leaders pushing to incorporate issues such as the environment and poverty into the agenda, while old-school leaders seek to quash any efforts to dilute their traditional anti-choice, anti-gay message.

From this split, some new right-wing leaders appear to be emerging, such as Richard Land who seems to be attempting to position himself as the Right’s new powerbroker, seemingly at the expense of James Dobson. For his part, Dobson has been keeping something of a low profile, perhaps chastened a bit by the controversy he generated when he suggested that presidential hopeful Fred Thompson was not a Christian.

Other than appearing from time to time to declare that he won’t support or vote for Rudy Giuliani or John McCain, Dobson has been relatively quiet as of late – but that doesn’t mean that his organization, Focus on the Family, has become any less influential or involved in politics, especially at the state level. Just in the last two days, it has been reported that FOF has hooked up with a new “state policy council” in Washington and is affiliated with a similar organization in West Virginia, both of which have a similar goal: pushing the right-wing agenda at the state level and energizing right-wing voters ahead of the upcoming elections.

The Family Impact Summit is meeting in Tampa in September. They have a agenda of bigotry and intolerance.

Religious right big shots heading for Tampa in September...read their hate agenda.

On September 20-22, a who’s who of the Right will be in Tampa for the Family Impact Summit. Featuring the likes of Tony Perkins, Gary Bauer, Don Wildmon, Richard Land, Katherine Harris, and Bob Knight, the conference will offer a wide array of panels on everything from the “Homosexual Agenda,” “Homosexuality & Youth,” and “Homosexuality & Ministry” to workshops on “New and relevant research on homosexuality.”

In between the gay-bashing, there will also be panels on “Christian Citizenship” and “Community Decency,” as well as keynote addresses from Bauer, Perkins, Ken Blackwell, and Harry Jackson.

I have not heard from Reverend Al Mohler in a long time. I heard he was sick, but I still check on his writings about the evils of contraception and having sex for enjoyment. He really had someone get into his mind and turn things around...he was never that much of a bigot years ago.

Southern Baptist leader says deliberate childlessness defies God's will.

"I would argue that it ought to be falling short of the glory of God. Deliberate childlessness defies God's will," he said.

And here are his views on contraception. Remember this is a Southern Baptist, head of the seminary, not a Catholic...but he is taking on those views.

..."First, we must start with a rejection of the contraceptive mentality that sees pregnancy and children as impositions to be avoided rather than as gifts to be received, loved, and nurtured. This contraceptive mentality is an insidious attack upon God's glory in creation, and the Creator's gift of procreation to the married couple."

I didn't get to watch the CNN series this week, but from what I hear from my friends in Belgium and Italy this conservative movement was not slowed down just because we took control of the House last year.

1. Apparently, they feel the need to encourage their
followers to produce more little fundies to brainwash. A new generation of "Christian soldiers".

:puke:

With any luck, it means their numbers aren't increasing as fast as they'd hoped.

2. Mad, I think we need a new Secularist Church
If God has these warriors that are anti-secular, then God needs some warriors who are secular anti-theocracy. We need some good-hair guys (no baldies, of course) and some charismatic, classy women to head up some ministries that will storm the country. We can get atheists, agnostics, Christians, et al to interpret scripture with the emphasis on Jesus (Democratic-Progressive), but not on Paul (Conservative neocons). By the way, there is no need for a draft. Watching God's Warriors tonight, it is evident that there are plenty of Fundamentalists to keep the Army and Marine Corps filled up. Teenage warriors for God are numerous.

Anyway, back to my original theme. We will get these great orators among us with good hair (of course), who can start a large group of Mega-churches to make big bucks for the Democratic Party and support our candidates all over the country. They don't have to believe anything they are preaching. We just need a new wave to counter the Repubs. They do require getting lathered up, though. They need to sweat profusely and strain their blood vessels and put on a damn good show. Hey, it's how it's done these days.

7. I'll preach there
I'm a Satanist and an ordained minister. I'll happily give a sermon on the need for church-state seperation and the value of charity.

5. Ah, yes...
Dobson was the one who advocated...well never mind.

And he was cruel to his dog in the name of obedience.

This bunch of Christians is showing a very hateful side of Christianity.
