3. Huge, aren't they?
There is a plant here in Gainesville, Tx that makes them. I see convoys leaving now and then and am amazed at how big the blades are.

4. There is a Wind generation complex in Thomas, West Virginia
I take long rides out into the country on my bike (motorcycle) several times a week and I came across a wind farm in Thomas a couple of weeks ago. When I turned to head toward home I took a route through Oakland, Maryland and on the way passed a State Police escorted monster tractor-trailer rig that was carrying a single blade for one of them. A few miles down the road there was a second convoy carrying a portion of the upright part of the windmill. It was pleasing to see until I realized that none of this power is used here in West Virginia, it all gets sold to the DC area and in fact they are about to destroy some of the nation's most scenic areas in order to sell more power (big transmission line project) out of state.

One thing I loved when I visited Germany a few years ago was how many windmills there were - they were EVERYWHERE!

<- here's a pic, taken from the passenger seat of my friend's car as we were heading down the Autobahn at about 220kmph

8. I'm told the're headed to windfarm in N Illinois- visible from I-39 south of I-80
I cross posted to a neighborhood yahoo group and got this answer:

I understand they are headed to a large wind farm in north central Illinois.
It's visible from I-39 south of I-80 for those that have traveled that route.

Story I heard was that it wound up more economical to ship them to the Port of
Milwaukee and truck them to the site vs. using the Port of Chicago.

9. We get those coming through my town loaded onto
trucks. I have no idea where they are headed but it seems like they are manufactured somewhere to the south of us because I always see them headed north.
