I'm betting Bush will appoint Orrin Hatch as AG |
|
1) Orrin has been wanting to get out of the senate 2) He would be easily confirmed by his "buddies" in the Senate.

1. Ben Ginsberg is my bet |

Swift boat collaborator (please ignore the fact that he was simultaneously the chief counsel for the Bush re-election campaign)

4. I doubt Hatch! The split in the Senate is so very close already, I |
|
sure can't see them willing to lose even ONE Senator. Then I can't believe Hatch would want a job that can only be 17 months long! Oren might have wanted out of the Senate, but he wants the SCOTUS!

6. The split in the Senate is not guaranteed if Hatch is the nomination. |
|
Despite the incalcitrance between the two parties over the last 15 years, some relationships in the Senate predate that line in the sand. For instance, Teddy Kennedy and Orin Hatch have had a real friendship, dining together, a comradeship of sorts. Hatch has not offended every democrat he's dealt with, and let's face it, dems being "fair" is their strength and their downfall. There might be enough votes to confirm Hatch under the circumstances.
