This guy is as bad as they come and we sure as heck don't need him heading justice. Call your reps., and call Leahy and Schumer and tell them no. I called Schumer and said, that as a constituent of his, and given the fact that Schumer introduced Chertoff in the first place, I hoped Schumer has realized his mistake considering how he has treated NY and how overall ineffective he has been in protecting this country. The only thing he does is makes it harder for Americans to live freely, given all the 'Homeland' restrictions.
Take Pre-emptive action.

I sure hope Chertoff is nominated and has to face confirmation hearings...they're sure to be brutal. Remember, it was on his "watch" that a majority of the Katrina fuck ups happened. Here's a chance to finally get some accountability on what happened here or else Chertoff gets painted as the cause of that disaster...
....which leads to the thought that it's hurricane season and do we wanting this walking shit stain to direct any future hurricane mess? Maybe it's best he gets the nomination just to get him out of DHS.
Whomever takes over for Gonzo is not just a lame duck, but one with virtually no Department to work with.
My bets are that Paul Clemment will be named...just to remove him from investigating the contempt of congress charges...and allow this regime to stonewall longer.
My bets are this regime could care less about nominating a new AG...they haven't had a functioning Justice Department for months.

And they still approved him.
This country is screwed with the leaders we have, for they aren't even leaders!

4. They should pick Patrick Fitzgerald |
|
He has the integrity, the experience, the respect of everyone. He has managed a large, diverse caseload. He alone has the strength to clean house in the Justice Department. Besides, he is a really good, thorough lawyer. I would have liked to have seen him be a little more aggressive in choosing whom to indict in the Plame case, but then his caution and his apparent lack of vindictiveness should make him acceptable to the Bushies. He plays more than fair. That is the most they can ask for at this point.
Les jeux sont fait for the Republicans. At this point, long concealed scandals are emerging so quickly that the Republicans cannot respond the momentum. The tide of history is pulling them down. And their fall is well deserved. A philosophy that glorifies the selfish pursuit of wealth, encourages the worship of the idols of materialism and denies the human need to build a society that is just and protects the poor, the young and the weak cannot survive.

5. Schumer and Leahy shouldn't need prompting to prevent any ... |

more "loyal Bushies" from blocking congressional investigations. This is the break we've needed to get real independent investigations going. If they approve anyone that even vaguely resembles a "loyal Bushie" for AG then it's time to give up on the Democrats all together.

14. Given Chertoff's disregard for Constitutional Due Process, he is most certainly NOT QUALIFIED. |

7. Congress needs to ask him about the granting of contracts by |
|
the Department of Homeland Security. It also needs to ask about the setting of priorities in making grants to various regions of the country. I should think Chuck Shumer would be especially concerned about whether sufficient funds have been allocated to New York State and in particular New York City for anti-terrorism projects. And Senator Feinstein needs to ask Chertoff about how he has dealt with funding for anti-terrorism activities in the large urban areas in California. Same applies to Florida, Nevada, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and other states with internationally recognized large urban areas or strategic infrastructure that would be vulnerable to terrorism. Has Chertoff aided and abetted the Bush procedure of using federal grants to promote political ends? Did Rove make his political presentations in the Department of Homeland Security while Chertoff was in charge? These questions must be asked and answered truthfully and in a manner that elicits the Senate's confidence and trust. We need an honest man or woman in the Department of Justice, not one who has conducted business in a corrupt or partisan matter where Americans' lives are at stake.

Schumer wishes Bush would pick someone better, but he'll settle for Chernoff and complain about it to satisfy the stooges at home.
