TPM Anonymous Poster Suggests-"Refuse To Confirm Nominee Until Subpoenas Answered"
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 11:18 AM by kpete
Anon is short and sweet (for a change) but RIGHT ON - IMHO, kpete

"Perhaps if the senate refused to confirm the nominee until their subpoenas are answered, the process could be expedited.

Instead the Senate will tolerate perjury, make empty threats and demands faux promises, put up a fake fight to please the folks at home, then confirm."

11. Will the REAL Mystery Poster PLEASE stand up. NO PROBLEM.
Actually, the real "Anonymous" is the poster at the CREW website.

Here is a compilation of some of those posts:
NEW Mystery Poster on CREW = "Anonymous" +++ Deep Modem's Mother Lode
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1669387&mesg_id=1669387

I should know. I'm the person who has been posting at TPM without using a name! Well, not the only one, of course.

So, it seems we need a new name for "Anonymous" since there are so many of us anons.
Should we call the CREW "Anonymous" legal scholar "Deep Lawyer" ??

"He has minorities he can condescend to and make them feel important enough to do his every wish"

Many people believe Bush treats Gonzales and rice as equals and friends, but remember one thing... Bush has never actually paid these people. they have done his bidding without question for many years now, but although the nation has chosen to free slaves and pay them for job performance, Bush has never given them a dime. We pay thes guys, not him, yet they are still acting on behalf of their slaveowner... not us.

Said it elsewhere, as well, but my prediction is that he lets Clement sit for as long as possible (over 200 days), make a big show of how uncooperative the Dems are with his appointments, then make a recess appointment next time around.

13. WRONGO. WRONGO. WRONGO. The RUSE is up. SORRY! GAME OVER!
Game over.

Anyone can post anything they want at TPM and leave the name field blank. I know. I do it too!

The legal scholar whose work is under consideration is not the person who is making these posts. They are being made by someone else, and not by me.

Here are the posts that were actually made by the "Anonymous" poster:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1669387&mesg_id=1669387

16. LC is correct, of course
There are many people who post at TPM without putting a name -- I have also done it, but only before this whole "anon" thing started (don't do it any longer because I see how easily people get confused).

There's a writing style and the content that needs to be considered.

LC, thanks for linking to your other thread, I missed it somehow.

17. Yes, and now we get to consider why people post and say DM says this!
It is an interesting ruse to follow, but at the same time it is very important to communicate:

"There are dirty tricksters at play here and everywhere, especially where they hide as anons."

I trust the posts at CREW as the real "Anonymous" lawyer's work.
We shall see what happens there now that attention is refocused from the ruse!!

Again the link to about FIFTY REAL so-called "Deep Modem" posts is:

The Bush Administration's next-least-worst option now that AGAG is leaving is to do what they have done better than any corrupt American Presidency in the history of our country: leave the position unfilled and run it through a Bush-selected loyalist from within the ranks.

In the case of the Justice Department that's easy, since it's been thoroughly rotted from the inside out. The media is reporting that Solicitor General Paul Clement, a political lawyer through and through with a grand total of about six years of actual law and clerking practice (including his current job as the nation's most prominent practicing lawyer) and about ten years working for John Ashcroft and stealing elections, will be named Gonzo's acting successor.

Solicitor General seems to be an important post within the Bush Administration, being traditionally staffed by insiders who seem to know where the bodies are buried.

Edit: For those of you wondering how Clement got his job in the first place, just think it through for a minute: the job of Solicitor General is to argue cases before the Supreme Court on behalf of the United States. Why wouldn't the Dems want a barely-qualified hack in that position? He's been doing our job for us by incompetently representing the hyperconservative legal position, and making Scalia, Thomas, and Scalito work overtime trying to drag their warped opinions out of his inexpertly crafted arguments.

39. so, that's the same as it's been
...for the entire Bush administration. when have they not put a politico in a position of power and influence? Never. ever. Every dept in the govt has been infected with Bush's political appointees or nominees.

it certainly can't hurt to have a public show with Bush, etc. insisting on putting people in positions who are grossly unqualified but who are his pals. This is something that needs to be hammered in any hearings... not just the AG, but I would love to hear a list from a democrat that notes the various officials Bush has appointed and how their depts have suffered.

The media wouldn't be required to do its job (yet again) because others will have done the investigative work for them. All the media would need to do is mention the moment -- and c-span would also carry it.

FOUND: Deep Modem's source. FORTY original "Anonymous Lawyer" posts at CREW with links:

Here they are, in chronological order. I thank the other members of the Research Squad for compiling all the anonymous posts under discussion.
All I did was attach the links to the list, which made chronological sorting possible, and add a few missing posts by our "Anonymous Lawyer."
There are another dozen or so posts on CREW that I do not include yet, most that I know of being shorter and on the linked pages.

As you will see, this material represents a series of legal opinions and suggestions directed to the staff at CREW.
When reading the copied and pasted versions elsewhere on line, knowing where they come from and that context will
provide greater sense of who is addressing whom.
