Or is the fix in? Did Congress agree to go easy on Chertoff if Gonzo left?

(I personally don't care if Chertoff goes to Justice. He's already in the admin so its not like he can do more damage.)

1. That does seem likely
It seems like it would be a calculated fuck you to democrats and America - a way for Bush to show what a big dick he is - i mean what a big dick he has.

2. TPM suggesting (via FAUX) Solicitor General Paul Clement:
Gonzales Replacement Talk Update
By Paul Kiel - August 27, 2007, 9:18 AM
Michael Chertoff, a rumor floated this weekend, remains the most frequently mentioned candidate to replace Gonzales.

Meanwhile, Fox News cites "sources" as saying that Solicitor General Paul Clement is the likely choice to be Gonzales' temporary replacement. Clement, as third in succession at the Justice Department, has been serving as acting attorney general for the U.S. attorney firings investigation.

3. Because Bush knows the Vichy Democrats
will approve anyone he sends down. Otherwise people will yell at them, and that would be the end of the Republic.

Dems would vote for the zombie corpse of John Wayne Gacy as Secretary of Day Care if Bush asked them.

See prior appointments of: Roberts, Alito, Chertoff, Gonzalez, Ashcroft, Rice, etc.

5. There is blood in the water.
So the Democrats will likely cut a deal so as not to do anything "divisive" and to keep their powder dry.

7. Could be they don't have anyone else
People aren't exactly beating down the door to be associated with this criminal enterprise, in fact the rats are abandoning the bad ship bush as fast as they can. They may have scraped the bottom of the barrel and he's the only one left.
