here's gonzales' (interim) replacement....paul clement
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 01:17 PM by spanone

Mr. Clement joined the Department of Justice in February of 2001. Before his confirmation as Solicitor General, he served as Acting Solicitor General for nearly a year and as Principal Deputy Solicitor General. He has argued over 40 cases before the United States Supreme Court, including McConnell v. FEC, Tennessee v. Lane, Rumsfeld v. Padilla, United States v. Booker and Gonzales v. Raich. He also argued many of the key cases in the lower courts involving challenges to the President’s conduct of the war on terrorism.

looks like a loyal neocon to me

That is usually a signal that someone is stuck in some crazy 1950 theory on life and ever thing in it.

9. I don't see an American flag lapel pin. Is he enough of a patriot to be interim A.G.?
And I could be wrong, but that looks like a $15 haircut to me. Maybe he's a closet commie. Anyone who can't afford a designer haircut doesn't belong in this "haves and have mores" administration.

And finally, that suit looks like something he got by mugging an undertaker. Would you buy a used coffin from this man?

But on a more serious note, who the hell is this man, what's his track record on honesty, independence and integrity, and does he deserve to have power over our lives?

10. more about paulie
Clement has spent much of his government career defending the Bush administration's aggressive stand in terrorism cases, from the indefinite

detention of enemy combatants to the lack of full due process rights for Guantanamo detainees. More recently this summer it fell upon Clement to

oversee an internal investigation at the Department of Justice as to whether Alberto Gonzales perjured himself in congressional testimony relating

to the U.S. attorney scandal. All of the senior department officials above him had either already resigned or been implicated in the scandal.

19. These are questions that need to arise. Is the man fit ?
Or is he just another Homelander stooge intent on defrauding and debasing America for the benefit of republicons and their cronies?

12. It's nearly a pedo-smile.
He looks like a guy who used to work at my office - he would just appear in the doorway and scare the crap out of the women here. Fortunately, he put on a few pounds and we could hear his breathing as he came down the hall.

17. he doesn't need to be confirmed to be acting AG, but he'll sail through if nominated
Not clear that he's chimpy's pick for the permanent position. If he is, you're right that he'll be confirmed easily. He was confirmed as SG on a voice vote (I believe) in 2005. Here's what Russ Feingold had to say about him at the time: http://www.senate.gov/~feingold/statements/05/04/2005427420.html
