Just wondering if this is how it all went down. So many DU'rs were pissed as hell at the rushing of that Bill, calling it a Coup for Bush when they were getting ready to go on Vacation.

If they were going to Appear to get screwed (or US actually), then hopefully there was a REASON, somewhat like THIS Resignation..

I mean this IS Washington, DC, and they ARE Politicians :)

Too bad that his precious name had to get dragged through the MUD like that - love hearing that from someone so fine and upstanding as BUSH!

1. well if that is the case, they got the short deal of that also
if you heard the king speak today, he referred to the unfair treatment that the AG got, and that it was only political

3. Well, evreything is "political" in DC by definition, but
The American people know the story here, they watched him lie his ass off in front of Congress a few weeks ago. "Fool me once, shame.. shame on.." etc.

17. It was more the bloggers, or places like DU who kept the pressure up
because Congress sure would not have pushed it as much on their own

After seven years of this nonesense, you think they would know, but it was the people calling their representatives office that was the biggest part of this in my view

24. BWAHAHA
You give us far too much credit. It was not the bloggers. It was Leahy, Shumer, Feingold, Whitehouse, and many others. The bloggers (snort)

already planned for by Cheney, and * puts a spin to it saying that the Dems muddled Gonzo's name, * loves his arrogance and ignorance attitude.

7. The right wing owns the media anyway
so all we'll hear about is how POOR Gonzales got screwed...

All I'm seeing is the Vick saga, 40 minutes of that, then, "Oh, and Gonzales sort of kind of was FORCED to Resign by those Nasty Dems.."

All Psyops, All the time.. sheesh.

I guess part of me likes to think that this was the deal, because it would indicate that Commander Pissypants will actually do something he doesn't want to do.

I seriously doubt this was the case.

BUT -- If it was, I have an idea as to why--the Democratic leadership is so certain of a Presidential victory in 2008, that they figure we can use all that unchecked power, via warantless wiretaps and such, to wreak havoc on our political enemies in the years ahead.

4. Good Point
That's what I've been wondering about, are they so arrogant in the White House as to think that Dems wouldn't LOVE to use ALL the powers they've stolen for the Unitary pResident once the Dems are IN?

Part of me worries that they don't think they'll ever get back into power vis a vie Diebold manipulation, and stealing Offices again, or else they'll keep the Courts filled with Federalists so Nothing will ever get done, all right wing all the time?

11. Assuming we HAVE a 2008 presidental election
I somehow doubt that the Rethugs are going to hand a Democrat all the presidental powers he's culitivated--unless that Democrat is THEIR first choice.

14. Hey, I didn't say they were being rational
I was just imagining why my Dems rolled on the FISA thingie. Maybe they're so sure of themselves mounting the mother of all political bitch-slaps in 2008...

see, that's when I just start laughing, real hard. I'd like to think that Pelosi, Reid & Co. + the field of Democratic presidential candidates are hard-asses, but it's real difficult to do that based on what I see from them oftimes.

was in response to the chimp calling the Dems bluff, and he realized they meant business.

10. Just look at the
SMILE on Leahy's face, that "cat that ate the canary" look - I LOVED it :)

All those Emails the right wing LOST? Gee, it may appear that Leahy already HAS THEM!

I know lots of people here disagree, but I suspect there is much more going on behind the scenes than in front.

CandyAss Crowley just said that ALL the PUNCHING BAGS seem to be dissapearing..

ALL Punching Bags? Look at the framing in that.. MEAN, BAD DEMS :)

Maybe it's just the wheels coming off, more likely it's all the Hole in the Wall Gang laying low.

How will Bush THINK with all of his PALS leaving?!

I don't think ANY of them worry about our Civil Liberties at this point, maybe the Dems actually WANT to be able to paw through some right wing sock drawers in the future.. maybe we are just small potatoes to them in the big pic..

If this is the deal the Democrats made, it wasn't an especially smart one (though that shouldn't surprise anyone).

15. I'm not gonna Bash the DEMS
I have enough respect for them that I'm damned sure they've got something up their sleeve.. they can be pretty wiley themselves, but you have to think more LONG TERM with them.

THe Lockstepping right wing are INSANE and should be RUN out of the Country. But the Dems in the long run DO have our best interests at heart, it's HARD herding the cats, the Left, where every person is a Special Interest, and NOT in Lockstep, unfortunately.

They've got to be flexible.

Bet when they get back into power they'll be removing some of the Draconian Bush attacks on the People.

19. No. The deal was no recess appointments for FISA warrantless spying
Having Gonzo resign really does nothing to help correct the Just Us system. He needs to be prosecuted/impeached to have any real effect.

23. Well you know, Rove left like a gentleman according to a RW mediawhore.
I'm sure Gonzo left with all the dignity and integrity of the Justice Department waiting to spring out of the closet as soon as his ashy hoofs left the building.
