Kerry Tells Bush to Restore Integrity to Justice Department
Kerry Tells Bush to Restore Integrity to Justice Department

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kerry issued the following statement today, following the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez.

“Alberto Gonzales turned the Justice Department into a political arm of the White House and he should have resigned long ago,” Kerry said. “From the firings of the US Attorneys to evasion about illegal wiretapping, Gonzales single-handedly damaged the integrity of our legal system and subverted efforts to get to the truth. This is a critical moment. President Bush can either continue on a divisive and destructive path, or choose in the next Attorney General someone who knows they’re not the president’s lawyer but rather the nation’s top law enforcement officer. The President should choose a replacement that gives the department a fresh start, untainted by controversy; and even with Gonzales gone, Congress must keep pushing until we get truth and accountability on unanswered questions involving everything from illegal wiretapping to the US Attorneys scandal.”

2. What good is that ? ....

Bush does not believe there is anything wrong with the Justice Department.
I sure he still believes he has brought honorary and dignitude to the office of the President, despite engineering the most corrupt administration in US history.

You can not solve a problem with the same people who created the problem, especially if they do not even see the problem.

Cheers

4. That's why Congress must keep pushing
Do you think he believes Bush is going to change??

Congress must keep pushing because he knows Bush is going to continue being devisive and destructive.

6. Maybe that's WHY Congress should keep pushing
for accountability and try to get someone honest as AG - though that is likely not going to be easy or maybe even doable.

Very nice statement

9. He is not saying that Bush will - but he is correct that that is
what Bush should do. Glad you seem to prefer that Senator Kerry simply settle for the President's actions as they are.

17. Most commentary addresses the person responsible or change.
The comment is a broad statement that is meant to express the need for change and to comment on the past. Why single out Senator Kerry for a negative reaction. I suppose Senator Shumer must be worse in your opinion, he held a press conference on Gonzales. I suppose he shouldn't of made suggestions to Pres. Bush or expressed his opinion either.

18. K & R
It seems to me Senator Kerry is the example of what the rest of our elected officials should be doing. If all the Dems in the House and Senate were resolved to hold *'s feet to the fire the way he has, we would see more progress in more areas (IMHO).

Too many of our Dems are quiet and/or triangulating. They should be yelling from the highest treetops so 'murkins will see what *, gonzo, KKKarl, et al have been up to. So sad Dems spend so much time slamming each other when they should be slamming these criminals.

By the way, you also won't see Kerry slamming fellow Dems. Class act.

20. Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen though...
....some other inept, crooked, evil, bu$hbuttkissing crony will be shoved in there. The ONLY way any of this is going to get cleaned up is when that entire "administration" (ie: CRIME ring, in this case) is GONE.
