Will you be standing up in September
Stand Up In September Vigil

This September, after hearing the White House‘s report on the "surge," Congress will decide whether we bring our troops home or spend another year fighting an unwinnable religious civil war. As Congress heads back to DC, we're here to tell them that it's time to take a stand.

We're holding candlelight vigils and Town Hall meetings in cities all over the nation on August 28--National Take a Stand Day--to remember the human cost of the war and urge our members of Congress to stand up in September and end this endless war.

11. I wonder why people haven't been paying much attention to this
My posts on it sink like a stone.

And yet it looks like there are several gatherings happening. This is good.

Ah, Virginia Beach. Just a hop, skip, and a jump from where I was born.

I wonder if De Paul Hospital in Norfolk is still there.

12. DePaul is still here
I'm a transplant, originally from Central N.Y., we ended up staying here after my husband retired in the Navy, our kids were still in school and they had been moved around enough. so we stayed.

13. My dad was Navy
He was on the ... Amphion? Geez, I can't remember. I'll have to look at his DD214.

He was also on the Dixon. He got out when I was about three, and we got a pretty nice house in Norfolk. But the schools sucked in our area, so we moved to Wisconsin. Then back to Virginia, because my mom liked it there better, then back to Wisconsin because the schools still sucked.

I was always the new kid. Blah.

16. No, I mean when I post about them, why don't more DUers pay attention
or indicate that they'd like to participate. These threads sink like a stone.

Perhaps if I included a gay dog fight that turned into porn I'd get somewhere.

18. I don't see much anti-war fervor here anymore.
I get far more responses from email lists and other local blogs when I promote our anti-war events. DUers seem far more interested in a presidential election that is still 15 months away than a war that is going on right now. Then as you said, there is that dog fight and porn crap too.

17. We are having a huge event here
This day is being promoted by several different organizations, MoveOn, Working Assets, True Majority and some others I can't remember off the top of my head. They are all sending out email alerts. I signed up to be the organizer for our local event and we have gotten a record number of responses. More than for any other event we have promoted through MoveOn.
