DEEP MODEM: Who is the "Anonymous Lawyer" and who is the "Anonymous Imposter" ??
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 05:05 PM by L. Coyote
Spinning off because the previous thread is very long, due to the amount of legal writing by the "Anonymous" lawyer.

NEW Mystery Poster on CREW = "Anonymous" +++ Deep Modem's Mother Lode?

2. Looks like he just posted again...

"If you look through obscure posts from three weeks ago until last week, you will see my original predictions about Rove (perfectly timed) and Gonzales (also one week prior as stated) Deny my accuracy and attribute it to coincedence or guessing if you like, but within three weeks from this day the dark one falls. The deal has been made and the substance of it is out."

29. LOOK AT THIS EXAMPLE of a prescient "obscure post from three weeks ago"

"These gentleman will go down one by one.

Rove is not the biggest fish.

Things from anothers past will soon be brought to light and the retribution will be silent but swift.

Deals are being made as we speak.

As I told you all a mere days ago, Rove is finished.

Next it will be Cheney.

Mark this post. It is not a prediction, it is a garantee.

Cheney will not serve out his term."

30. Well, Cheney isn't going to be leaving for our benefit but for the GOP . . .
if this is true -- presuming they want to try to salvage something of the GOP after the Bush disaster.

On the other hand, we have some strong rumors also coming thru that Bush is trying to arrange a "false flag" event to attack Iran.

Can they have their cake and eat it, too????

That's what they've been doing all along --

and it doesn't look like Democrats are settling in to stop them . . ..

Am I wrong????

"Now that the Justice department is finished with it's house cleaning, The rest of the deal Bush made to spare himself impeachment will begin. The Cheney resignation will be forth coming within the time frame I estimated last week. There are three weeks left on that clock. If you look through obscure posts from three weeks ago until last week, you will see my original predictions about Rove (perfectly timed) and Gonzales (also one week prior as stated) Deny my accuracy and attribute it to coincedence or guessing if you like, but within three weeks from this day the dark one falls. These have been put to great use.. Cheney is next, and you heard it here first. AS I STATED WITH MY OTHER POSTS MARK THIS ONE! Do not talk of it, Just mark it! It will be a great remebrance!" --- from TPM post

63. Here's a couple wild guesses: clerical worker in high places
or Poppy.

There are decent people in the employ of the government. Whistle-blowing happens and a lowly stenographer could gather a lot of cool information.

And when the going gets really tough, the chimp runs home to his love/hate relationship with his dad. Betting his dad has NO LOVE for the cons who used his dimson and put him in such a mess. Dad is an enabler and would likely do anything to bail the boy out.

Oh, where's 'the fixer' James Baker? Close proximity for some time, but ya never hear much about him...

OK, that makes three wild guesses

A truly patriotic office worker with lots of electronic skills
A pissed off father
A pissed off investor who sees the game unraveling because some people thought they were more powerful than he is. A pissed off investor who cheney was supposed to serve before he got too big for his britches.

Yeah, I imagine it will be "health" . . . but I'd suggest the health of the GOP . . .
they'll want to get someone viable for next election in there --

But as important as these resignations are . . . . we need the investigations to go forward so we know all the details of the corruption.

The Republican Party has to be held accountable for all of this --

Besides that, Bush should not only be impeached, he should be in jail --

60. We need to be careful about who we LUMP into one poster. AIN'T SO as they say
The poster predicting the "Dark One" will fade into history soon could be called the "Dark Fader" and should not be lumped with the "Deep Modem" or with the "Anonymous Lawyer."

The "Anonymous Imposter" is whoever is trying to put words in the mouth of "Deep Modem" on TPM by posting anonymously and then saying, "LOOK, DM says..."

The "Amonymous Impaster" is whoever is pasting posts from "Anonymous Lawyer" (AL) on TPM, if that is indeed the scenario. A timeline analysis will show if it is so. My guess, every word appears on CREW first!!

"Deep Modem" is the mystery poster who placed four of the about FIFTY "Anonymous Lawyer" posts from CREW on TPM. DM could be any of these characters excerpt the Dark Fader.

Mystery posters are any posts not identified with a name, real or assumed.

My thought: Ignore all of this except the AL posts at CREW.

35. On the other hand, I don't see a threat in it --- they want to get info out . . ..
or are simply repeating info they're hearing and want to move it out . . .

but this is as high as they can go with it???? To Democratic Underground and other websites????

Not to Greg Palast? Not to journalists like KO?

There are really two stories coming out -- one that Bush is moving to attack Iran --
another that Bush feared impeachment. hmmmmm.......

Wouldn't Democrats have heard about some of this at some point?
Does Pelosi look like she thinks that Bush fears impeachment???
Or, was Pelosi part of the "deal-making"??
Conyers know about any of this? Part of the "deal-making"???

Now, you could tell me that Cheney has lost his mind -- I'd believe it.
And, Bush seems to have never had one --

The controls may be in much higher hands that Cheney's . . .

And, the directions/deals coming from people we are totally unaware of --

36. I have often wondered about the influence of GHWBush
1) Saving his family's legacy.
2) Punishing Cheney for circumventing the CIA and basically blaming the bad intelligence on them.
3) Punishing Cheney for literally destroying the CIA's Brewster-Jennings intelligence.
4) Punishing Rove for "betraying" the "integrity" of his family by way of his son (wasn't Rove fired from GHWB campaign?)
5) Punishing Cheney for screwing up Iraq and in turn angering his long-time friends, the Saudis.

I dunno ... he's always been more powerful than most historically.

38. Right . . . and you could kinda feel something happening when Poppy and the Shrub ....
got together recently.
Plus, the family history sucks -- you don't want a lot of that pouring out.

On the other hand, someone let Cheney have free reign to pressure CIA intelligence experts re Iraq/WMD . . . pressured Tenet, of course.

And, disagree with Brewster-Jennings/Plame outing . . . Cheney does seem to be deeply involved . . .
though probably Bush also.

Don't know about #4 --

And, basically from what I've seen of Cheney he's nuts ---

Obviously, Poppy is still deeply connected to political scene, at least in regard to collecting money and making it internationally -- in whatever way required.

39. Brewster-Jennings Clarification
I agree with you. But, what I theorize is that Cheney screwed up and opened all of our eyes to Brewster-Jennings and the importance of their intelligence by seeking petty revenge on Wilson that really wasn't warranted. GHWB may have seen this as "loose cannon" type of behavior on Cheney's part --- like, "Dude, we got a good thing going here ... Wilson's trip and findings won't matter in the big picture ... and now you've opened up a can of worms that will ultimately fall accountability-wise at the feet of my son."

I could be off-base, but I've been swimming in it recently as all of these underlying inter-workings are being exposed.

Thanks, good post.

it would stand to reason that whatever is happening right now, the CIA has a heavy hand in it. Cheney fucked with them big time, and I'm sure Poppy for instance isn't real happy about it, not to mention the rank and file. Things are unraveling, and I'm sure Poppy is pulling all sorts of levers to get things back on track, he can't let things get too far out of control.

64. Horseradish, what could GHWB provide that James Baker needs from him?
Thinking The Fixer the more I think on it.

Yep, the son runs to the enabler father he loves/hates when things get bad. And things ARE bad.

Who does the father turn to? Who is the investor, or acts on the investors' behalf?

Baker moved an office in close a while back, didn't he? And try to reel Rove in a bit? We don't hear much from him. Or maybe we do lately?

37. Thank you again! -and a request.
First, thank you for finding and assembling all these various threads of idea and posts over time.

at this time I can't follow along -- too much going on --I skimmed the other threads, but it will be weeks before I can really read the various posts.

so, L. Coyote, from going through all these posts from DM, is this person simply telling people what's up or is he requesting that people take action? Can you sum up the various issues presented -- simply a list 1. 2. etc. that doesn't even go into great detail, but maybe cites the relevant info on other threads...comment #X from all the info you compiled?

is it possible to use the info DM put out to prepare something for the Attn. Gens for different states? if so, are there any lawyers on this site who are able to provide their two cents if, say, (I don't know issues of employment/ethics for lawyers in these situations) people in the state forums put together complaints for the AGs to take action... as DM said, because they are sworn to uphold the constitution and to abide by/enforce rule of law, and if it's not done at the federal level, then it's up to states to take action.

you know what I find so interesting at this time (interesting in a queasy sort of way) -- the democrats (not the party, but those who vote that way) seem to be moving toward a Jeffersonian view of democracy in action... local, small biz actions for jobs, for implementation of laws like medical mj, for health care, for the use of the death penalty.... while the federal govt, now in the hands of the gop, works it as their cash cow and as a 2x4 to fight against liberal states' actions.

it's pre-civil war, except now freedom from slave masters comes from state-level actions -- the opposite of the first civil war -- the players are the same, tho. The attitudes are the same, just flipped..bizarro world. Which is also interesting because state or federal, in and of itself, doesn't seem to really matter. Instead, it's who has control or access of diff. political apparatuses.

I look forward to the moment when Darth Cheney is (hopefully totally) defeated.

the dems have been making deals... I suppose that's why impeachment is off the table. Bush made me want to ralph when he was so indignant over Gonzos resignation. Bush apparently no longer plays in realityland? The lies are so much a part of who he is that he doesn't see that everyone else sees the emperor has no clothes?

btw, how many republicans have now been outed as total hypocrites as far as "family values" and in their own self-hatred of their apparent homosexual longings? I cannot help but think that these outings are more than coincidental. I also cannot help but think that if they were able to acknowledge their honest selves they would not be so hateful toward others.

71. so you don't think the TPM anon is DM?
In any of the posts? As I said, I cannot go through these things and compare... I'm here for a moment and then I'm gone again... I saw you noted that there were many anons on TPM, but if you did search keywords on google, did you also do a search for keywords at TPM?

I'm just trying to catch up a bit here. Is TPM the only place where the "deals have been made" post comes from? Or is it also on CREW? Why would you think that deals would not be made? I mean, face it, the Bush junta has basically told the constitution to go to hell, as Conyers said today on Democracy Now, impeachment isn't going to happen in the House (b/c of votes) -- do you think the deals are from Poppy? Or the Brent Scrorowft branch of the repukes?

What sort of leverage would get rid of Rove, Gonzales and Cheney? It has to be criminal charges. Don't criminals make deals to reduce their sentences in return for x or y? why would the govt not make a deal if it means getting rid of these oozing sores on the ass of american democracy? Do you think it's better for the republicans to make a deal b/c Cheney, etc. would be out and "new skin" would be running for prez off the v.p. position?

I wonder how much malfeseanace will come out. if there is a dem deal, I think we would see something because what do they have to gain by letting the guys walk? I can't believe the dems don't have anything to use on the Bushies.

before the tyrant in wet pants sat in the white house, deal making and bipartisanship were ways the govt was able to function. that's just reality. people who refuse to accept that deals occur are too naive about politics, imho. ..and thus, bashing dems for making deals is like bashing a teacher for singing the ABC song to a kindergardner.

Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 10:44 PM by L. Coyote
There may be more than fifty, of course. I simply quit searching after finding that many. One would have to read the entire history of the CREW discusion forum to find all the opinions. They apparently start far earlier than anyone realized, just after the CREW forum started.

The 'deals have been made' posts seem to be some deranged Dem basher with a glass ball, not some lawyer with real cajones.

Who is your Cheney replacement?

Posted by: totallynext

There are a few likely replacements. However if you read the news and notice which likely candidates are softly distancing themselves from Bush's Iraq policies you would come to the right group. The candidates are not to critical of Bush, but have in fact distanced themselves from the Iraq war policies in a quiet yet noticable way. This ensures approval from both sides of the fence. Go look through the last few weeks of headlines and read who is positioning themselves in a different way on the war.

I'm just playing along ... Fred Thompson, and why he has waited this long to declare his bid? It would curiously fit. And he does fit the "Distancing himself from the current course in Iraq thing while not distancing himself from Bush" description. lately, he's been playing the "What we're doing in Iraq is the right thing, but it can be done better" card ... like anonymous poster said.

But, we'll find out soon enough. I don't have a frickin' clue what's going on ...

The late night meetings in smoke-filled, D.C. back-rooms are living up to their expectations of acting as midwife to the birth of crooked Washington deals.

Maybe the Democratic party (or DNC?) leadership has only appeared to be ineffective and treading political water since Jan., whilst actually taking Bush further and further into the endgame, and finally this checkmate we're being teased with in Anon's posts.

Anon's posts are like looking through the wrong end of a telescope-- lots and lots of detail, but difficult to know precisely what that detail is relevant to, yet still damned fascinating reading...

67. Gonzolies Adventures in Ronderland OR Up is Down and Down is Up.
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 12:20 PM by L. Coyote
What is "Gonzo"? From Gonzolies (verb. nov.) English, May 17, 2007
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x907626

"Gonzo journalism" refers to when an author cannot remove himself from the subject he investigates, often referring to a style of writing a story as perceived in the moment in the mind of the writer.

When Boston Globe reporter Bill Cardoso read Hunter Thompson's "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved" he proclaimed "That is pure Gonzo!" Thompson believed objectivity in journalism was pure myth.

Cardoso used the South Boston Irish slang describing the last man standing after a drinking marathon.

"Gonzolies" is the English neologism describing the last man standing after a lying match.

"Gonzolies Adventures in Ronderland" is a tale with twisted logic epitomizing the genre of nonsense literature. Gonzolies is just one of the characters in the fairy tale of current American politics. The Republican Party has fallen down a rabbit-hole into an hallucinatory realm populated by grotesque misstatements from wild, anthropomorphic creatures like Talking Point Cards.

Gonzolies, a bored attorney looking for an adventure, starts a journey at Folly Bridge near Crawford, Texas, and ends up years later in the village of Gods Town. Gonzolies takes interest in a passing super hero, a white knight muttering "Oh dear! Oh dear! The Commies are coming!" He follows the knight down a deficit hole, and finds himself in a dreamlike world of magical beliefs where Gonzolies and R, the now aging super hero, grow to gigantic size.

Eventually they join Mad-Hater and his boss, March-to-War at a never-ending tea party of deficit spending, they go to a distant seashore and meet Mock Truth, and finally attend the Trial of "Critical Reason," the sole non-grotesque character in their adventure. Critical Reason has been accused of "disturbing truths." While Gonzolies prosecutes Critical Reason, he shrinks to a fraction of his inflated height, and the dream ends. Gonzolies wakes up at the picnic in Crawford, Texas.

Nonetheless, Gonzolies soon realizes that in Crawford up is still down and down is still up, and his new super hero, W, is enraptured by his own hallucinatory realm populated by wild, grotesque misstatements and talking points. Just when diminitive Gonzolies realizes the dream has not actually ended, he awakens again, and he realizes he was still at a lying contest and he was not the last man standing.

This time he has awakened in American politics, on the far side of Folly Bridge in Gods Town, where up is still down and down is up, and the lying contest goes on as W praises Gonzolies. Gonzolies wonders, "Am I still dreaming, am I still standing. How can I know if up is down and down is up?" He wonders, "Am I Gonzolies, or is all this still just a dream in Ronderland?"

74. Isn't it more important to feret out the facts as alleged by anonymous
than to try to unmask anonymous?

The reason the person or persons are giving information anonymously is because they don't want to be known. Efforts to unmask them will make them stop trying to inform.

Your focus on the who is not nearly as important on the focus on the information provided.

75. Absolutely agree. As I mentioned yesterday,
Precious time and resources spent on third party data capture may be much more productive than trying to figure out precisely the identity or identities of those involved, especially since these posts are starting to appear more like a group effort with each new discovery.

The MP has already told us that many have been involved in this process for a long time using highly secure channels, and that their work is directly on track to meet up with the public's research.

Let me also suggest that the very instant that someone posts an accurate guess as to the identity or identities of those involved in this "secret team," all the mystery postings may immediately end. I don't anyone's interests in preserving the Constitution would be served by that.

89. There are a lots of ways to hide tracks through proxies, remailers, etc.
And I'm sure that those behind the scenes are trying to ferret out who he is. Probably shouldn't give them too many ideas on how to find out. As you note, the most important thing is that hopefully he/she will give us some information tidbits that we can all independently verify and that gives us the smoking gun we need to go after these bums with. I think that the person behind the scene also realizes this too hopefully, if he really is trying to get the word out to the public what is really going on behind the scenes if it is truly insidious as it sounds.

If he knows of info that can be found independently and not argued with, etc. that is what he needs to focus on at some point. Sounds like its still tricky to do so now, but hopefully at some point we'll have that gem and it will be hard for this administration to deny their criminal actions and at that point we'll have the "Watergate tapes" moment we're looking for!

I do not care if Bill or whoever wants to remain anonymous.

I am concerned about a political trick being perpetrated by Dem bashers. If someone copies and pastes, then gets everyone excited about the new cyber-hero, then attributes their own opinions to the hero, we have an "Anonymous Imposter." This is going on, it seems.

32 C.F.R. PART 2800—SECURITY PROCEDURES

"All personnel of the Office of the Vice President are responsible individually for complying with the provisions of these regulations are in all respects. The provisions of these regulations applicable to all personnel assigned or detailed to the Office of the Vice President."

The Vice President is a "person" for purposes of 32 CFR 2800 enforcement. He shall comply with the CFR, which is the governing requirement; and shall be audited per Statement on Accounting Standard 74, to ensure compliance with the 32 CFR requirements applicable to the Vice President, OVP staff, and all OVP legal counsel.

# When did AG learn OVP was not complying with the 32 CFR 2800?

A plain reading of the Code of Federal Regulations puts the OVP, Vice President, and OVP legal counsel on the wrong side of the law. DOJ AG, DOJ OPR, and other legal counsel affiliated with the DC Bar need to decide whether you want to maintain public confidence in your legal profession; or whether you require outside supervision, as is required with law enforcement, to publicly oversee and monitor what appears to be an increasingly reckless, out of control, and unresponsive legal profession.

Why, despite clearly promulgated 32 CFR 2800 requirements on OVP for security issues, is the Department of Justice not swiftly moving to ensure the facts related to the obstruction of the auditors has been known, understood, and forwarded to the US Atty for prosecution;

Why hasn't this information been provided by DOJ OPR and DOJ Staff to the Grand Jury for their review?

OPR investigation was going to examine how two senior DOJ lawyers had repeatedly warned Gonzales that the NSA program was not legal. After meeting with Gonzales to discuss the matter, Bush, in a highly unusual move, blocked the security clearances that OPR investigators needed to conduct the internal probe. It remains unknown whether Bush knew at the time he denied the security clearances that Gonzales was going to be a focus of the OPR probe or whether Gonzales concealed the fact that he would be under investigation but worked to convince Bush to shut down the probe anyway.

"The severity of this situation cannot be overstated. This article makes it clear that Attorney General Gonzales acted to save himself from an internal Justice Department investigation by having President Bush shut it down," Hinchey said. "We are talking about some very serious ethical and quite possibly criminal violations committed by Attorney General Gonzales and maybe President Bush if he was aware of OPR's intentions when he blocked that investigation. This country cannot tolerate anyone, let alone its top law enforcement official, operating above the law. Attorney General Gonzales and President Bush must step forward and explain their actions here."

The USDOJ OPR answers to AG Gonzales. Even if he has recused himself in this matter, internal investigators aren't going to sacrifice their careers ( because there are always pay-backs ) by going after the boss or the President. Look what they have done in the past.

American needs to be screaming for a special prosecutor! The only thing which will inspire any attention in the DOJ Staff counsel, White House political office, VP, EOP, or the President's office is one thing: The prospect of jail time without possibility of pardon.

85. I will be very surprised if "AL" turns out to be a lawyer....
All lawyers are taught to write in a persuasive style that incorporates a methodical analysis and factual support.

Many people have a good understanding of the Constitution, and the arguments that emanate from it.

This particular poster seems to have first hand experience in watching investigations and/or audits which touch on legal issues.

The more I have read of posts attributed to "AL" the more likely I believe it is that his/her postings are the result of collaborative efforts. There appears to be evidence of cutting and pasting from several sources.

WE may have several whistleblowers still operating 'inside' this Administration who are working together to get the truth out, and maintaining their anonymity by 'sharing' information that cannot be tracked back to just one individual. IMHO very smart.
