PSA: I do not have sex in airport restrooms.
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 06:01 PM by Bluebear
But who is making laws saying I can't get married?

Child abusers.
Married but love to sleep with men.
Diaper-wearing prostitute clients.
Sexual solicitors in public parks.
Sexual solicitors in airport restrooms.
Married to their cousins.
Married to young girls who are younger than their own daughters.

Yet they make the laws saying I cannot marry my partner of 22 years.

edited to add: Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain.....and EVIL! LIBERAL!..Massachusetts. One by one the civilized countries of the world are recognizing same-sex marriage, yet it is the hypocritical outwardly-religious Republican party that is stopping progress in the United States of America.

20. People say stupid things. There is a popular gay blogger I generally like whose position
on same sex marriage and having kids is - roughly - that though he supports the RIGHT to do it he thinks we shouldn't because it's killing gay male culture or somesuch.

I hate it when people I like say really stupid indefensible things.

26. Any Behavior Available To Straight Americans Should Be Available To Gay Americans...
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 07:06 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
If a gay man or woman and their partner want to kiss, hold hands, hug or other "acceptable" forms of affection that is their right as it is the right of a straight person...

But as long as society doesn't allow straight couples to have public sex I don't think it's consistent to extend it to gay couples...

57. Who is saying that???!!!
I don't know anyone who engages in restroom sex. Gay or straight. It's certainly not part of being lesbian. I sincerely doubt that most gay men are interested in having sex with strangers in public bathrooms. I don't know anyone who thinks that it ought to be some kind of right.

Sheesh.

7. very important point.
These laws are written buy people who sell moral values like it was mined and they own it!

Who gave them the right to make moral value judgments? Not their own person; who now admittedly performs acts that publicly they consider deviant! Is it only possible to be a successful Republican if you love the things you say you hate?

It would explain the bipolar behavior exhibited by some very powerful Republicans.

Hey, if it helps, be glad you have someone you'd marry. I'm 51 and don't think that will ever happen. I understand. But still, you're lucky in that respect. With any luck, this country will change sooner rather than later. I'm pulling for it. It would be a greater place if you were happily married to your partner.

...and I'm not just talking their 50+ % divorce rate or their nasty little perversions you've mentioned either.

This is Such a Sanctified Holy-Assed Ritual and all. That's why you can get married looking like a Klingon or a Vulcan or have The Really Holy Parts of the Ceremony read by an Elvis impersonator. You can get married jumping from a plane or on a float in a parade... I've seen all of this.

Yup, why oh why can't I marry the woman I have spent 15 years of my life with? Maybe we're just not tacky enough or crooked enough or warped enough Bluebear.

It sucks and it's so stupid...

who denies fundamental rights of marriage to couples in love. I've only been married 14 years. My frst, hubby's second. Even my 81 year old baptist father makes sarcastic remarks about "Gays wrecking my marriage of 54 years to your mother," as a retort.

21. MA has the lowest divorce rate in the nation
Suck on that, Kansas...

OK, that's the easy answer. It would be a lie to say Kansans love their families less than Massachussettsians. Massachussetts has such a low divorce rate because it's a very rich state with the kind of social programs that help families stay together.

Then again, Kansas can suck on that fact, too.

Well, ok, it's called something different but it carries the exact same legal rights and it's even processed on the same paperwork. Granted, it should be called "marriage" and I expect it will be in due course, the word was only dropped for political expediancy.

I'm so with you, Bluebear. I wouldn't give two shits about a repub getting it on in a public bathroom, or another one strapping on a diaper and going to visit a prostitute, or another one dumping his wife and marrying a girl who wasn't born when his daughter started college. And yet they refuse to return the favor. They're somehow morally superior to me, because I'm a man who's attracted to other men.

Hypocritical pieces of shit, every one of them.

You are correct!

This is the problem with the way the world works these days. It does not matter as long as you have your public image. A politician can vote against gay marriage and for banning gays from the boy scouts but secretly enjoy gay sex! Why? Because you still have your public image as long as no one knows.

And even then, when you are finally in the public eye you get away with anything anyway.

A teeny-bopper gets caught with heroine after getting picked up on DUI?
She hardly gets a slap on the wrist.

Priests get caught molesting children?
They get moved to another area and get away with it.

Politicians molest children?
They get away with it....

AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE (for the most part) SEEM TO FORGET ALL ABOUT ALL OF THIS IN THE MATTER OF DAYS WHILE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE INVOLVED ARE SUFFERING (or for those that got away, should be suffering) FOR IT!

The list goes on and on...

I'd leave any church who spoke poorly of gays and I'd tell them they help cause these nasty stories we all read about because they scare weak people into the deepest area of the closet where they hate themselves and cannot find a way out of except through illicit sex.

64. SUPERB!!! Worth repeating - should be said, read, and spread!
PSA: I do not have sex in airport restrooms (by Bluebear)

I'm putting this one in my journal so I can find it more easily, and so I can remember who to credit. Bluebear, you are to be GREATLY commended (and hopefully, highly quoted) for this post! These points need to be made over and over and over and over and over. Repeat, BECAUSE it's necessary.

In short, the Glass House effect - it's alive and well.

remember to add South Africa to your list:

No, seriously, it should make you feel good. It demonstrates the necessary and unavoidable connection between the equal enjoyment of human rights by one group and the equal enjoyment of human rights by any other group. Where equality is genuinely valued by a society, and the society truly values diversity, the society guarantees everyone's equality, and celebrates its diversity.

So when equality truly is valued, you are not going to be left out. And when someone truly values equality, s/he is not going to leave you out.

Sounds like one o' those litmus test things ...

I just can't resist boasting here, for something I can take no credit for at all.

The 1867 Canadian constitution was characterized, in the 1929 decision of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London (then the final court of appeal for Canada) holding that women were "persons" for the purpose of appointment to the Senate, as a "living tree".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_tree_doctrine

It is that doctrine that led to the equality guarantees in our 1982 constitution being interpreted by our Supreme Court to include a prohibition on government policy that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation. And that was what led, a few years later, to the rejection of limits on marriage to exclude same-sex couples. (South African constitutional law is heavily influenced by Canadian decisions.)

And who wrote that 1929 decision? Why, my great-great-great-great-grandmother's brother's grandson, the Labour peer and Lord Chancellor of England.

I only learned this last month, you see, so I'm still prideful. This week I saw my ex-sister-out-law from Toronto for the first time in ages, when she picked my nephew up from my place, and was able to tell her that she has her son's greatx6 grandparents to thank for her happy newly married state. ;)

The hypocritical outwardly-religious Republican Party in the United States bears the blame for most of what is wrong in the world today, if you ask me. And you feel free to blame anyone associated with it for anything you like, and say anything horrible you want about any of them.

After all, there are limits to the diversity that any of us has to tolerate!
