Taking on Ted Nugent’s tirade (Amendment II Democrats) |
|
At an August 21 concert stop at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California, Ted Nugent delivered an on-stage tirade at several Democratic lawmakers. Brandishing what appeared to be two AR-15s while addressing his audience, he said, "Hey, Obama, you might want to suck on one of these, you punk!" and referred to the IL Senator as a "piece of shit." He then invited NY Senator Hillary Clinton to "ride one of these into the sunset," following with some similar remarks directed at CA Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein.
This is not the first time that Nugent has railed against government officials and activists with a disappointing record on Second Amendment issues; some will probably recall his earlier song Kiss My Ass which is aimed at Sarah Brady and former Attorney General Janet Reno, among others. Nugent's First Amendment rights are not at issue, here.
What is at issue, however, is what would happen if Nugent - who also happens to be an NRA board member - were to direct these remarks towards George W. Bush, current Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, or anyone else in the Bush administration. Would those insults have been allowed to stand without legal repercussion? Or would those remarks have been interpreted as threats, possibly earning the Motor City Madman the label of "enemy combatant" and a one-way trip to Guantanamo Bay?Continued at the Amendment II Democrats blog at MySpace

4. One of the reasons I've lost all respect for the NRA is their refusal |
|
to distance themselves from asswipes like Nugent. Check their website sometime - it's full of feel good stuff about education in the use of firearms, gun safety etc. How the fuck can they purport to be interested in teaching kids to use guns in a safe manner and allow one of their board members to run around threatening to shoot political figures?
The NRA is a tool of gun manufacturers and the republican party. They don't really give a shit about the safe and responsible use of firearms. They just want to be able to sell as many of them as possible with the fewest restrictions possible.
I also think they'd turn over their membership list to the government in a heartbeat if the administration was repub, enabling the search and seizure of privately owned firearms.
I strongly support the second amendment but the NRA sucks and ted nugent is a giant piece of shit.

5. You can learn all you need to know |

about the "Nug" by reading the lyrics to "StrangleHold" which would seem to celebrate beating a women who left him. http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/t/tednugent10804/stranglehold345580.html

8. "...what would happen if Nugent...were to direct these remarks towards George W. Bush"... |
|
I'll tell you that something would happen like what happened to Randi Rhodes when a bump-in skit (she had nothing to do with producing) aired on her show that featured a * impersonation and then a gunshot. The righties went ballistic for something like 2 weeks; were accusing her of threatening * and the SS even showed up to ask her questions.
Think anybody is going to give old Teddy as much as phone call for threatening public officials?
