Tall male Duers... help me out, please... (Sen Craig question)
I am a not terribly tall woman. It is unconceivable that there is any way I could sit on a toilet - without great contortions - that my foot could come into contact with the foot of a person in another stall. Is it possible? Has anyone ever unintentionally done this because their legs are so long that they would accidentally spread so far that they would go under the stall to the next stall and brush against another person's leg?

If it is possible, and has happened, I would imagine this would be one of those terribly embarrassing moments that one would say something like "excuse me" or the like.

Has anyone had this experience? Is it possible (I have no idea - if one is a foot plus taller than I, than perhaps it is possible) and if this is a fairly common experience... what does one do or say (if anything) in that moment?

Just asking, because as a shorter female, it seems an impossible situation. But perhaps it could occur - but I would need someone to tell me, "ya, that happened to me and this is what how I responded (if at all) when my foot/leg hit the foot/leg of the person in the next stall... The whole thing seems improbable.

8. The whole explanation makes no sense, unless this is a fairly
common phenomenon. I have never heard of this (but maybe it is commont but folks are to red-faced to tell stories of it - and all is innocent. Given this is the Senators primary excuse (that he, essentially, squats really wide) - I just had to ask. How probable is this?

I'm 6'2" and my feet have never wandered that far. Anyway, to get ones feet that far apart, you'd have to take off your pants.

I am sure I could stick my leg under the stall but it would have to be a conscious decision. Its not like my legs get away from me when I am not paying attention.

6. Depends on how wide the stalls are.
In most public restrooms, my foot could easily reach under the partition to the next stall if I'm "number twoing" it. The only exception is if I choose the luxury of the wider, taller handicapped stall. I rarely do that, as the taller stool doesn't give me the optimal..um...traction.

21. fair enough...
that is exactly what I was asking - it sounded absurd to me... but I am shorter thus my legs are far too short for this to occur under any circumstances. Had to ask - if it was possible. So the next question begs to be asked... so you are innocently going about your business and bump into the person in the next stall... Do you say anything? Too embarassed and pretent it didn't happen and stay silent, or do you say something along the lines of "excuse me?". My short person would do the latter, but given that I have never been in the situation, perhaps that is not realistic?

Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 10:07 PM by Blue-Jay
I think I misunderstood your question. I was just saying that I could reach if I wanted to, but I'd have to try, as it would never happen by accident no matter how wide your stance is. It would take a conscious effort to rub against your stall-neighbor's foot.

27. thanks again... reconfirms my sense that the claim is absurd
... but as a short person I just had to ask if it was likely (or a episodic occurence) before I claim how absurd the whole explanation is. Thanks - both in describing that it is possible (for a taller person) but highly unlikely to actually reach the leg of the person in the next stall.

It astounds me, at times, the ridiculous claims that repubs (and some dems) make to try to explain their bad behavior. Absurd is, absurd. But before I got confirmation from taller males I wasn't ready to SCREAM this in response to any appologists.

:hi:

46. MSP bathrooms are not small
MSP bathrooms are not small - I go to that airport 5 or 6 times a year and have used the bathroom many times and they are your standard wide stalls. There is no way a foot would go under unintentionally. Granted I havent been to every restroom in the airport however I imagine they are all about the same.

And I've never even come close to doing that. I'm not a man but I would think it wouldn't make much difference, especially since women spend a hell of a lot more time sitting on toilet seats than men do.

10. Not sure. But they said Rosemary Woods could answer the phone,
lunge for the file cabinet AND accidentally reach and erase 18 1/2 minutes of the Nixon tapes.

I guess if ol' Rosemary can do that, Larry Craig can do this.

In any event, I'd like to see Nancy Grace devote at least a full hour to the subject.

11. I'm a guy of normal height
but, guys generally tend to go out of their way not to possibly touch other men in the restroom with "wide stances" or whatnot. Meaning, we usually try to be as unobtrusive as possible and just go about our business and leave.

But, I'm sure if Shaquille O'Neal or Yao Ming had to use a public stall to sit down, though, it could be difficult for them without stretching their legs a bit.

and no one has ever "touched my leg under the stall".

I would guess that O'Neal or Ming would probably say something to neighbor stall mates if they hit their legs. Have to wonder how tall Craig is, I have never heard comments about his height (per comparable to the tallest in the NBA.)

18. If anything, taller folks are more accustomed to keeping our feet and legs tucked in.
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 09:57 PM by TahitiNut
While I'm only 6'2", it's something I've noticed over the years. Sitting in a restaurant booth or table, shorter people easily stick their feet forward ... since they don't go far. I, on the other hand, am used to not having enough room so I've tucked my feet under or beside my chair as long as I can remember. I got tired of apologizing before I reached 20 - I associated it with being clumsy or awkward. In my latter years, I learned to "take back my space" (but no more) after of decades of being a bit "too tightly wrapped."

There are "rules" (taboos) in a mens' room. No talking. No eye contact. No contact at all. (It ain't like the women's john.) Craig is hallucinating.

23. I think he was standing
The cop describes someone being in the stall to his right, so Craig was in the stall to the left. He also says he was the wedding ring, so Craig was reaching under the stall with his left hand. So he was standing up and had his feet spread so wide that one of them went under the stall to the left (insert uproarious DH laughter) and then reached under the stall to pick up invisible paper.

The pled guilty because he was innocent and everybody knows a jury would never believe a US Senator say he wasn't masturbating in a public bathroom.

What a putz.

In which case they are going to be draped on the most likely filthy floor.

Then your underwear will keep you from spreading your legs all that far anyway.

At home I pull my undershorts down all the way. In a public restroom, never.

certain kinds of shoes. If you know enough that you can find the right bathroom on the right concourse at the right airport - shoes would make it easier on everyone - they could just carry them in the briefcase or roller cart or backpack.

So has Larry Flynt commented on this one? Will Bill Maher bring it up and who will be the right wing guest?

Maybe an inch under. My feet are as far apart as my pants will let them. Usually no more than a foot between ankles.

And I don't take off my shoes and pants in a public bathroom without extenuating circumstances.

If Craig was rubbing ankles with a neighbor, either his pants were all the way up or all the way off.

The Minneapolis airport is very nice. The stalls are not narrow and confining.

50. Six foot seven here
While it would be **easy*** for me to stretch my long legs into the next stall, it would be highly impractical as a way to relieve leg cramps. The reason being that bathroom stalls are longer than they are wide. If I needed to stretch my legs beyond the stall's confines I would stick them out under the door--which they would presumably be pointing at anyway while I did my business.

This bathroom sex thing is more widespread than most females realize. I remember once sitting on the crapper and noticing graffiti that said "tap foot for BJ"--kinda scary since I'm straight and randomly tap my feet all the time.

I've seen some small stalls before, but like someone upthread said, you'd have to have your pants off to spread your feet out that far... or have them all the way up. Otherwise they be bunched around your ankles and would limit how far your feet could spread apart...
