URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE/NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA/1011 AM CDT SUN AUG 28 2005
Two years ago, the President of the United States was briefed on this hurricane while at his "ranch". That was on a Sunday. The next day, he left to have a birthday cake with John McCain in Arizona. The following day, he flew to the glamorous Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, played guitar with country singer Mark Wills, played golf, and raised money for the Republican party.

During those hours, thousands of Americans died or lost everything.

Read this warning again, and remember how the President of the United States reacted.

2. I Remember This Too Well
AT LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL FAILURE

ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL

POWER OUTAGES WILL LAST FOR WEEKS...AS MOST POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN AND TRANSFORMERS DESTROYED. WATER SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS

How could anyone claim they didn't know it would be so bad? If they didn't remember Camille in 1969, didn't they remember Andrew in 1992? Of course, Katrina was worse than Andrew, largely because of the levees failing and the fact that Andrew's worst was in relatively affluent areas of Miami and Katrina's worst was some of the poorest neighborhoods on the Gulf Coast.

3. I was on a sailboat on the ocean when it happened
Luckily I was coming down the New Jersey coast.

The week before this a hurricane came up the east coast
and I was coming up Long Island sound toward NYC
I had to pull in at Northport and wait all week tied up
until it finally veered off into the Atlantic about
150 miles south of Long island

Rained like hell for two days until it passed

4. The problem isn't with us/DU forgetting
The problem is the idiots that still think * and his minions did a heckuva job before, during and after Katrina. The blind will never see.

We will never forget or forgive that POS.

10. "most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks"
In retrospect, "weeks" sounds pretty darned good.

I guess they were expecting FEMA to do its job.

11. I remember loads of us here at DU tracking the storm, posting about it and using
group consciousness to make Katrina divert and Katrina didn't hit New Orleans directly. It was the levees. The fact is, we all knew how bad it could be. It's all in are archives here.
We saw the devastation as Shrub went about his merry way and Stephanie did a fantastic photo collage right after-wards.

15. The president and his advisors would have to have been idiots
not to 'get' this....

Oh, wait, they ARE idiots....'scuse me.

Anyway, I will not forget either, still makes me outraged. Last week when they showed that hospital where the doctor and two nurses were that were being accused of euthanasia... all over again I could not believe my EYES that my fellow Americans were just left to DIE. It is ourtrageous, it is shameful. I pity the souls of the people who callously waited...and waited... and waited... to finally lift a finger to give the smallest amount of help.
