Idaho Statesman: (Republican) man claims oral sex with Craig at Washington's Union Station
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 08:30 AM by IDemo
By Dan Popkey
Edition Date: 08/28/07

Sen. Larry Craig, who in May told the Idaho Statesman he had never engaged in homosexual acts, was arrested less than a month later by an undercover police officer who said Craig made a sexual advance toward him in an airport men's room.

The arrest at a Minnesota airport prompted Craig to plead guilty to disorderly conduct earlier this month. His June 11 encounter with the officer was similar to an incident in a men's room in a Washington, D.C., rail station described by a Washington-area man to the Idaho Statesman. In that case, the man said he and Craig had sexual contact.

The Minnesota arrest was first reported Monday by Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper.

In an interview on May 14, Craig told the Idaho Statesman he'd never engaged in sex with a man or solicited sex with a man. The Craig interview was the culmination of a Statesman investigation that began after a blogger accused Craig of homosexual sex in October. Over five months, the Statesman examined rumors about Craig dating to his college days and his 1982 pre-emptive denial that he had sex with underage congressional pages.

The most serious finding by the Statesman was the report by a professional man with close ties to Republican officials. The 40-year-old man reported having oral sex with Craig at Washington's Union Station, probably in 2004. The Statesman also spoke with a man who said Craig made a sexual advance toward him at the University of Idaho in 1967 and a man who said Craig "cruised" him for sex in 1994 at the REI store in Boise. The Statesman also explored dozens of allegations that proved untrue, unclear or unverifiable.

2. EEEEEEEEEEEEW!
I work at Union Station (near really) for Amtrak. There's only one major bathroom and it's always crowded with people of every walk of life. I don't see how that's possible.

Unless it's the one by Thunder Grill...EEEEEEEEEEEEW!

When I was reading this on Yahoo! news, they didn't even mention that he was a republican in the first paragraph.

Not that it needed mentioning.....I think by now we kind of suspect this kind of behavior from them.....hypocrites.

4. "Pre-emptive denial" of sex with underage pages--
Boy, that wouldn't raise anyone's suspicions, would it? "By the way, in case the topic ever comes up, I DO NOT have sex with teenage boys. No sir. Not me."

6. Wanna bet that Foley & Craig were pals?

That said, I have NO issue with consenting adults having relationships, gay or straight, but the UTTER hypocrisy of these holier-than-thou, bible-thumpin',hell-fire-& damnation closeted republicans makes me ILL!!!

They are too greedy for the power and money to tell the truth to their "base", because they know they would never be elected. They KNOW the only party that esposes rights for everyone is not their party, but they are too greedy to be honest about themselves, so they lie and lie,
and lie, and hurt innocent people, because they value money & power more than anything else, even it means denying who they are.

Being a gay man in Idaho, must not be much fun, but instead of moving, as a younger man, to a place more welcoming, and embracing his true self just was not something he probably considered. he chose to take on a "fake wife...complete with kids", and pretended to be such a "family guy"..for what? To get elected and run roughshod over people he actually identified with in his own private life, all the while passing legislation to make their lives a living hell :grr:

15. Honestly, I doubt that.
House and Senate--not that much 'mixing' goes on, beyond the leadership and rankers, who occasionally get together for the 'espirit de corps' type photo ops, and the odd conference committee stuff, which is mostly done by staffers. The Senate is more high-falutin' than the House....

11. Popkey's been working this story for a while, too
According to Kos (or was it Eschaton?), Popkey and the Idaho Statesman have been working this story for some months, to the exclusion of Popkey's reporting on the Idaho legislature for the last session. At some point, Craig's attorneys (who he apparently didn't bother to consult before pleading guilty earlier this month) threatened the Statesman with a suit if they should publish. The Statesman has apparently sat on the story for several months because of problems with verification.

It is the lead story this morning on the Today show. So long, Mr. Craig.
