Bill Moyers Talks with FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 09:51 AM by EV_Ares
The very important but little covered FCC is once again considering whether to revise media ownership rules -- and there's pressure to let media conglomerates get even bigger. Bill Moyers interviews FCC Commissioner Michael Copps.

1. The most fascinating thing that..
I took away from that was that he is afraid the govt will take more control over the internet.

He noted that although the net is alive with activism, the news that the net works with mostly comes from primary news agencies monopolies.

I have a great hope for the independents like Rawstory.com and bradblog.

On DU one of the top threads is the praise for TPM (Talking points memo). Those are the future but he seemed to think they were in danger.

And on a side note I've thought is would be cool if DU could have it one set of investigative reports. Maybe once a month we could vote on a under researched topic. (example Statistical study of Election results in Ohio) and then fund a good reporter to go do a report on it.

2. You have a really good idea. I like the idea of voting on under
researched topics & on top of that seeing if could get a reporter to take it on. That is the sort of things that need to be done. I too am concerned about them trying to get more control over the internet. Also, the media hates the blogs/bloggers which is understandable as their work is easily critiqued by them.

Thanks for the post, a good one.
