Bush: "“You know, I was deeply affected on September the 11th, 2001"

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/08/bush_not_intimidated_by_thugs.html#more

<snip>

“We're a nation at war,’’ Bush said. “I wish I didn't have to say that. No president should ever want to come to any community in our country and say, we're at war, but we are...

“You know, I was deeply affected on September the 11th, 2001,’’ the president said. “I vowed that day that I would use all of our assets to keep the enemy from harming us again…

“The stakes are high. I recognize there are some who hear we're at war and dismiss that as empty political talk. That's either disingenuous or naive -- either case it is dangerous, because we face an enemy that is ideologically bent, determined to achieve their objectives, and murder the innocent.

“They are not religious people,’’ he said. “They may have hijacked religion, but they're not religious. I don't believe you murder innocent people to achieve political objectives and be a religious person. I just don't believe that. As a matter of fact, I believe that's the definition of evil. And I think the United States must do everything we can to prevent them from harming us and others again.

1. He was so "affected" by it he continued reading "My Pet
Goat," then flew aimlessly around the country waiting for the dust to settle, then ended the day, by his own admission, having a laugh with Pickles.

Soulless, lying bastard.

4. Again with the straw man arguments...
"I recognize there are some who hear we're at war and dismiss that as empty political talk".

WHO? NAME THEM, ASSHOLE!

Who is going around dismissing this war as empty political talk? Is it the people trying to stop this war so we have no more very real deaths and horrible wounds inflicted on our troops and the Iraqi people? To all of us opposed to this insane violence perpetrated by this insane fascist of a pResident, this war is very real. I know no one who dismisses it as empty political talk. How about anybody else?

6. Sorry, George, you'll have to peddle your wares somewhere else.
I just don't believe you any more, and neither do the vast majority of Americans.

You lied to start your Iraq War. You are responsible for all those dead troops. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and it wasn't supporting terrorism until you invaded their sovereign nation.

Your war was an optional one, George. It didn't need to be fought. And here at home, you've certainly not used all of our assets to keep the enemy from harming us again. None of the 9/11 Commission recommendations have been carried out. Our military is stretched to the breaking point.

We are not safer because of you, we are in more danger. You are the most hated man in the world, and you only have yourself to blame for that. America has lost all of the respect we once had as a nation because of you and your careless, selfish, and irresponsible policies.

The next President will have to clean up the mess you've created, because you are not smart enough to do it yourself. History shows you never have been. And I pray that justice comes your way. You need to answer to the American people for the things you've done.

At least Nixon was smart enough to go while the getting was good. We can't even say that about you.

7. And then he had a good laugh.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-daou/bush-jawdropper-91101_b_21988.html

President Bush: But the day ended on a relatively humorous note. The agents said, "You'll be sleeping downstairs. Washington's still a dangerous place." And I said no, I can't sleep down there, the bed didn't look comfortable. I was really tired, Laura was tired, we like our own bed. We like our own routine. You know, kind of a nester. Like the way things are. I knew I had to deal with the issue the next day and provide strength and comfort to the country, and so I needed rest in order to be mentally prepared. So I told the agent we're going upstairs, and he reluctantly said okay. Laura wears contacts, and she was sound asleep. Barney was there. And the agent comes running up and says, "We're under attack. We need you downstairs," and so there we go. I'm in my running shorts and my T-shirt, and I'm barefooted. Got the dog in one hand, Laura had a cat, I'm holding Laura --

Mrs. Bush: I don't have my contacts in, and I'm in my fuzzy house slippers --

President Bush: And this guy's out of breath, and we're heading straight down to the basement because there's an incoming unidentified airplane, which is coming toward the White House. Then the guy says it's a friendly airplane. And we hustle all the way back upstairs and go to bed.

Mrs. Bush: And we just lay there thinking about the way we must have looked.

Noonan: So the day starts in tragedy and ends in Marx Brothers.

President Bush: That's right -- we got a laugh out of it."

Where is an "irony" smilie when you need it?

In other news:

10/11/06 "Washington Post" -- -- A team of American and Iraqi epidemiologists estimates that 655,000 more people have died in Iraq since coalition forces arrived in March 2003 than would have died if the invasion had not occurred. :eyes:
