Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 10:36 AM by kpete
This is strange. Maybe that’s why they’re all bailing for Texas and other points unknown. The DC transportation system “events” of the last 2 days - check it out:

So here we have unprecedented simultaneous interruption in service at 4 separate rail stations (out of more than 30 in the area) that just happen to connect the Pentagon to the airport that regularly services incoming military, Pentagon employees, Congressional Representatives and of course average Joe’s like myself.

First responders are baffled and the DHS, which has already failed New Orleans in a massive way is nowhere to be seen. Remember, the last time the Pentagon Metro station was closed for more than one day was on 9/11/2001, so this is not some everyday occurrence. I don’t mean to get my tinfoil hat on, but WTF? Sadly, I imagine that the only reason the Bush administration hasn’t jumped all over this as possible terrorist sabotage or a terrorist attack is that their is no easy photo op to bolster his pathetic administration.

UPDATE:
Ironically, the “incidents” did not make the headlines yesterday, they were reported only in the Metro section of the paper.

that we HAVE to wonder what's going on.

Too bad we don't trust our government not one whit.

5. what other recent DC news has there been -- US troops deployed in DC - "Operation Noble Eagle"
http://www.wesh.com/news/13949580/detail.html

Local Troops Deploy To Nation's Capital

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Members of the 1st Battalion 265 Air Defense Artillery have mobilized and are on a plane headed first to Ft. Bliss, then for federal active duty in the capital region.

snip

The 265th is part of Operation Noble Eagle. They are ordered by the president to the nation's capital, where they will operate high-tech weapons systems against any potential air threat.

Families may get one or two opportunities to see loved ones during this year-long deployment, but it’s not encouraged.
Though the solders are staying in the states, they are on serious business.

22. I wonder if there's a connection to the 4.5 billion in "puts" on world markets?
I'm starting to think war with Iran is the common denominator.

That will disrupt world oil markets, send the stock market plunging as oil goes through the stratospher, and might provoke a response from China, who gets a lot of it's oil from Iran.

How the unexplained metro disruptions relates, I'm not sure.

6. On behalf of the precious and protected Skep Ticks at DU,
It is my duty to inform you that you are wearing :tinfoilhat: and are bordering dangerously on Magical Thinking and WOO-WOO.

(bear in mind that I have NOTHING to back up my assertions, only the premise that I am right and you are kooky.)

16. yea, and * never takes the blame for it either.
:tinfoilhat: I am saying this with this on, do you think they are bailing out of DC and putting forward with this exercise of Operation Noble Eagle that they are gearing up for some attack after they attack Iran, it seems to be all over the news and just mentioned on Thom Hartmann, that the news woman he usually has on giving us the scoop in DC that they are gearing up, and keep an eye on Ari Fleischer, he is being paid by someone likely Rove to give in his two cents now.

10. If all the "evidence" in DC goes up in flames just like it did in WTC7, some of these investigations
might come to a halt--just like in WTC7.

Yeah, I know it's tin-foily, I just never trust a Bush on vacation, especially when his back's against the wall.

15. Ohdearlord ...

Unprecedented?

Did the article say that, or is that editorializing?

I asked because I read the first page of the story, and it sounds not at all unfamiliar. I'm not a DC resident but visit there at least a couple times per year, and I've been caught in circumstances like this *repeatedly* on the Metro. In March I was stuck on the Metro for two hours near the Pentagon station, finally was able to get off, and had to take a cab to get where I was going. Eighty bucks, it cost me.

Assuming the simplest answer tends to be the most likely, I'd suggest that the Metro is just fucked up.
