1. Senate should NOT confirm.
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 11:32 AM by rusty charly
Wouldn't they realize they'd give up their majority? Would they actually do that? And for Lieberman, of all people?

11. !
"If Lieberman were to caucus with the Republicans, they would still not take full control of the Senate, despite Vice President Dick Cheney's ability to break 50-50 ties. This is because of a little-known Senate organizing resolution, passed in January, which gives Democrats control of the Senate and committee chairmanships until the beginning of the 111th Congress."

6. Would Connecticut put a Republican in?
I got the impression that Lierberman aside, it was a pretty blue state.

15. I'd take it if
as I understand it, the appointee would have to run to hold the seat during the next election.

Besides, Rell, the Governor isn't that red a republican. I don't know if she would appoint a puke just to keep the federal party happy, it could cost her and her party dearly when she is up for re-election.

7. That was my question. Wouldn't we gain on this? It's only until a new
admin. comes in right? I'm just asking...

2. That was the first name I thought of when I heard Gonzo was resigning.
The chimperor's pal would be confirmed by the Senate in a heartbeat, and chimp would once again have someone to carry out his orders just as Gonzo did.

Rumors started by bloggers, and circulated by bloggers. Big effin deal.

By the way, any suggestion as to what Joe would get out it? Trading four plus years as a Senator for less than 18 months as AG?

17. Hartmann says he'd do it if promised VP before end of term
3 or 4 months before end of term Cheney resigns

That puts Joe in position to run for prez

21. and Hartmann knows this how?
Holy Joe is a first rate jerk who I wish had lost to Lamont. But Harmann has to be smoking dope to think that there is even the slightest chance that Joe would be offered the VP position to replace Cheney (assuming that Cheney steps down, which strikes me as another pipe dream).

Joe for all of his faults -- too many to list -- has consistently received ratings of zero from the National Right to Life folks and ratings of between 75% and 100% from Planned Parenthood and NARAL. For that reason alone, he is absolutely disqualified from being picked by chimpy to be a heartbeat from the presidency or from running for prez as a repub.

23. No way Josémentum.. He's NOT gonna run fro president
He could not even win his own state's primary...and as a dem, no republicans would choose him over the others they have running..

He cannot run with Bloomberg, if he runs (2 jewish north eastern guys?)

Josémentum will serve out his 5 years, and become a lobbyist.

And why doesn't CT have a Democratic governor? Is it the influence of all the Greenwich area millionaires?

12. I'm not sure it would be such a bad thing to get Lieberman out
why? because even if a republican replaces him, he would not be in the full six years of JL term--only until next year (I think), and Dems could put up a strong challenger and a real Democrat and possibly win this seat. Besides, we wouldn't have JL constantly making threats.

Anyway, I would not be surprised at all, if Bush were to nominate Lieberman. It would make it real difficult for the Dem's to reject the nomination. Bush will also say that he is reaching across the aisle to nominate a "Democrat" and bash the dem's if they don't accept lieberman.

19. To be honest, this is a GOOD thing.....
We would lose Senate control until Jan 09. We'd still hold the House. We'd get rid of Lieberman (He'd lose his AG job in 09). So, good thing as far as I'm concerned.

It would put most inquiries into bush administration irregularities to bed as well as dissent for the neoconservative foreign policy agenda.

for 17 months as a pariah.

Ole Joementum knows that this is probably his last term, so I don't see him cutting it short..

:sarcasm:
For the the dislike that DU has towards Lieberman, the man is not stupid. Why, after going to so much trouble to retain his seat in the Senate, would he leave it for a short cruise on the doomed Bushitania, already listing heavily and taking on water faster than the pumps can work?
