Time 's Ana Marie Cox compared Congress' questioning of Gonzales to "legislative waterboarding"
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 02:06 PM by LynneSin
Yes, I can see the comparison between the House & Senate Judicial committees stern questioning of Gonzales as compared to a prisoner-of-war being forced to lie down on a plank of wood and have water poured on them in order to torture said prisoner. I'm sure many times during questioning, Gonzales felt an involuntary gag reflex leading to a terrifying fear of drowning. Shame on Conyers & Leahy for such cruel behavior!!

:sarcasm:

Where do they find these dumb bimbos who are willing to say such bullshit!

Time's Ana Marie Cox compared Congress' questioning of Gonzales to "legislative waterboarding"
On the August 27 edition of MSNBC Live, Time magazine's Ana Marie Cox described Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales' questioning "the last time he went in front of Congress" as "legislative waterboarding."

Anchor Contessa Brewer asked for her reaction to Gonzales' resignation, to which Cox responded:

COX: Well, it's tempting to go with what John Edwards said, which is, "Better late than never." I think a lot of people in Washington, no matter what political affiliation they had, had been sort of watching this and shuddering for the guy. I mean, the last time he went in front of Congress, I felt sorry for him. It was like -- it was legislative waterboarding. You know, they just kept going after him and kept going after him.

As Media Matters for America has previously documented, an ABC News report on the history of the technique described "waterboarding" as an interrogation method whereby:

The prisoner is bound to an inclined board, feet raised and head slightly below the feet. Cellophane is wrapped over the prisoner's face and water is poured over him. Unavoidably, the gag reflex kicks in and a terrifying fear of drowning leads to almost instant pleas to bring the treatment to a halt.

5. Bob Somerby wrote that apparently 'wonkette' was
a combination of 'wonk' with 'Tourette's syndrome'. She's angling to be the next MoDo.

11. please, you're going after Ana Cox over this?
she said "legislative" waterboarding and it was torture to watch, couldn't have been too fun to be in Gonzo's seat.

The best part of the analogy for me is that we know that waterboarding doesn't work. Gonzo still hasn't told the truth and would rather escape than face it again.

It wasn't a bad analogy and yes, I know what waterboarding is. She's on our side. Go after her on substance, not shit like this.

18. This is precisely how we lose
Right when we should be going in for the collective "kill", the entire left splits into a thousand factions, each one seeking their unique "insight" to the situation in order to stay important and relevant. Massive egos run amok.

24. I have to agree. I have been on this board, both as a lurker and
as a participant, for nearly two years and the one thing I've notice that the right has over us is their ability to stay unified in their philosophy. We, on the other hand, have a hundred different ideas on every issue and very little unification. And if I don't believe in what someone else believes, I become the target of vicious attacks. Or vice-versa.

Oh, I'm sure some of this happens in freeperland too, but as a relatively new political spectator and activist, the animosity amongst Progressives for differences of opinion is rather obvious.

he's such a torture advocate and all. Nope, don't feel sorry for him one bit. He has YET to get what he deserves.
