For those of you living in red areas of the country....
How much does it bother you? Do you ever want to move some place more liberal, and if so, where?

My family keeps telling me to just ignore the W stickers and Jesus fish, but I have just grown so anti-social anymore I dont even think its healthy for me. I dont want to hang out with or socialize with people who voted for Bush, they really piss me off.

And yes, we had our house for sale, but the market is so crappy we pulled it til next spring.

Is it just me????????

1. No, it doesn't bother me ...

Do I get pissed off a lot? Hell yes.

I'm a political activist. Preaching to the choir doesn't allow me much of a chance to act. Liberals are needed *most* where they are least represented. I feel fortunate I can spread my message, daily, to those who would otherwise never hear it.

2. There are times when I think I just can't stand the 'south' anymore, but then I have
lived in about 9 states and know that annoying, GOP types exist everywhere. Here I'm more tortured by my Southern Baptist coworkers than anything.

3. It's not all it's cracked up to be. I live in Washington, technically a blue state.
But we are actually hovering on the edge of turning red. We're really a fine shade of purple. Western Washington is reliably blue, but Eastern Washington is about as red as it gets. Some wags here in the west, my brother for instance, call Spokane "Spokanistan". The city seems to belong more to ultra-red Idaho than perceived-blue Washington.

Although I live in a blue state, I live in a red town east of Tacoma. Lots of pickup trucks and SUV's with W04 stickers and whatnot. I think the only way I'd be truly happy is if I lived in Vermont or someplace.

I hate it too.

I would like to think I'm annoying them as much as they annoy me.

For me, moving isn't an option, at least not right now.

I'd go to Seattle where my son is.

But I've always dreamed of living in the Bay Area

Somewhere with a strong Blue atmosphere

6. I'm a liberal, atheist, democrat living in a small conservative bible belt town.
No, it doesn't bother me. My friends are mostly conservative republicans (no one else around). We joke around about each other's views, but if a W bumper sticker or Jesus fish is that upsetting to you, the issue is with you not your environment. Even in the bluest of blue area, there will be dissenting opinions.

I love the area I'm from - beautiful countryside, and the people are nice for the most part, but there are also a lot of Bushbots around. And as for freedom of expression? Well, let's just say that it's best not to outwardly express any "liberal" ideas if you value your property (and/or your life, in some extreme cases). :eyes: I would like to move somewhere more liberal, but I don't know if that's possible at the moment.

(Edited for clarification.)

12. Alaska's red
but I wouldn't leave here for anything. There are just too many other benefits to let the politics get me down. Besides, we're not really inundated with W stickers and fish. Alaska's Republicanism seems to be more of the libertarian and corrupt variety rather than the "moral values" crowd.

from one of the bluest, most liberal districts ,right up there with Pelosi, and Lee, to a one of the reddest counties of Calif. albeit a moderate puke Bonehead Bono, its hard to tell a moderate from a conservative at times.

16. I live
in (J)Oklahoma. Arm pit of the Bible belt red state hell. I fully intend to move (to a growing economic area that tends to be more red than blue) and have fond dreams of mooning the city limit sign when I exit. That said, the reasons for my intended exit are more personal (start a business near aging family members who require my assistance) and economic (there is economic growth there while it is stagnant and declining here - and there is less competition there) than political.

I enjoy conversing with folks who do not share my political views. It is rewarding to influence or change somebody else's views. And you can. It requires being confident in my own self and in my own values. That confidence means that I am reaching out in a hostile environment rather than defending myself from perceived threats.

I've also found that there are like minded folks here who share my values and political goals. Look for them and you will fiind them. Get involved in a cause you care about. Consider doing some volunteer work in local elections.

worm seems to be turning. Texans are pissed. Granted, there are your hardcore republics here. But I think that Texans in general are not very proud of the *. In fact, if Texas Dems work reeaall hard this election cycle, as I will attempt to do, we can turn this state purple.

I just try to ignore the W stickers and Jesus fish, but Saturday, I saw one bumper sticker that just sickened me. It read "Jesus for Bush, 04." I think that if there ever was a Jesus, he sure as hell wouldn't vote for Bush.

live and let live.

Of course, when the right doesn't do so (i.e., let others live), I fight them.

31. Well, if my name's any indication...
Yup, it sucks to know that my fellow statesmen have elected some of the sleaziest sludge to ever ooze into Washington DC, from Sen. Mitch "Moneybags" McConnell, to Anne Northup, to governor Ernie Fletcher. And, yes, I have thought about vacating to Chicago before, dreamed of it even, but to be honest, that's actually in the hopes of a better cultural and music scene than what Louisville, KY, offers.

But, all is not lost. We recently put progressive House member and "Colbert Report" favorite John Yarmuth in office, recently. And, the way I see, if I won't spread the progressive message, as one Kentuckian to the next I meet, who will?

Still, if my bandmates agreed to move to Chicago, I'd be on the first plane out.

39. A lot
My family and I live in suburban Atlanta, in perhaps the reddest county in this dark-red state. At times, it's oppressive. I try to keep a low profile with regard to my political & religious beliefs, so as not to cause problems for my family. We'd like to move into the city proper, which is much more forward-thinking, but it's just not affordable.

40. If the divisions in the country continue as I expect them to..
We will eventually end up like Iraq to an extent.

People will segregate themselves according to their political/religious beliefs.

I'm in a red area of a very red state, there are times I would like to be able to speak my mind freely without having to worry about my safety and the safety of my family.

I took the Darwin fish sticker off my car after having it keyed twice in the three months I had the sticker on there. That was quite a few years ago and I've had no more vandalism since.

People here _hate_ liberals. You may think I'm exaggerating but the local board I sometimes post on looks just like Frei Republik.
