The sex trade should be OPEN, REGULATED
and I don't care what gender

Now to those afraid that their little ones will be solicited in bathrooms... I have news for you... their chances of being solicited are as high as yours... practically non existent.

Yes, I understand that now that you know one of the little horrid secrets out there you are afraid... but kids will not be persecuted by normal folks who happen to be gay, or straight.

Yes, there are people out there who will do things, ranging from rape (on women) to assaulting kids... what they do has absolutely nothing to do with sexual orientation but all to do with POWER...

So give it a rest.

By the way... meeting places underground for illicit sex (of any gender or type) have existed as long as this country has been around. What the Senator did happens all the time, among gays AND straights. And that is why this illicit sex should be openly regulated by health authorties... for health reasons. And for god sakes, your chances of knowing where this is happening involves being part of that particular community, or EMS or law enforcement. They are not published and nobody will start publishing them right now.

Now folks give it a rest, your wee ones are safe, or as safe as they were yesterday before we learned a US Senator, who is a hypocrite, happens to probably be bisexual. He has his issues... but he wasn't going after your kids... unless of course they were into his thing and tapped back, since he did "not approve" of that lifestyle. Incidentally, that is MY issue with the good senator.. I cannot stand hypocrites.

1. all sex between consenting adults should be legal.
Period.

I don't care if it is casual, or paid for, or for lust, or love. It ain't my business or anyone elses. Sex between consenting adults is no crime.

I do not care what genders are involved.

CONSENTING ADULTS - no crime.

2. The only reason I want it regulated is for health
reasons.

Other countries do it, but they are far more mature about this than we are

4. i trust the people invoved to look after their own health risk
i took that responsibility myself when i was single.... but if you want to provide health certification (and legal status) for sex workers, i have no complaint

Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 07:43 PM by nadinbrzezinski
why? Doing that with sex workers expands the need for people to do it safely... and responsibly

At least most of the time

On edit, why I called it the SEX TRADE

:-)

6. Bravo. Freedom for adults to do with their bodies as they choose.
I'm quite fine with prohibiting sex in public areas, however.

9. Prostitution between consenting adults is completely legal and regulated in most of Australia.

Seems to work just fine for them down under. When I visited there, my Sydney bus tour acutally took us thru the red light district. The bus driver/tour guide explained it all to us. I have to say it didn't look much different than the wealthy areas of Sydney. Very clean and respectable.

10. if it's ok to have all the hanky panky you want for free,
why can't you have all the hanky panky you want for a fee?

How in the hell can they tell you otherwise? Doesn't seem right....

11. Some faulty logic here
You seem to be saying that the chance of being solicited is extremely low and yet you also say that it happens "all the time."

I for one have run across this bathroom scene a lot, particularly on the college campuses where I lived and worked. I think they should just provide fuckrooms so you know what you're getting into, before you sit down to take a crap and realize there's a glory hole next to you.

12. If you noticed then you knew what you were looking for
reality is most folks will NEVER notice

Moreover, it happens all the time IN DESIGNATED and KNOWN bathrooms in places such as campuses

It does not happen in every bathroom.

Like I said, I used to be an EMS worker, and we knew where the hanky panky was occurring, so did the cops... but it wasn't everywhere

What is more, when people NOT involved in the scene walked in, unwritten rule, LEAVE THEM ALONE unless, read this again, UNLESS they initiate the contact.

I know... hard to understand

As to campuses, yep, you're correct the college I attended had some places where the hanky panky happened. and truth be told until I started riding ambulances I had no clue... but how do you know? And I am sure some of the signs have changed, the creative drawings on doors inside stalls. Some of them were gang markings and some of them were markings indicating that this place was meant for encounters. Guess what? This happened in a FEW public bathrooms in a campus of thousands.

I am sure campus police knew about it, by the way, just as I am sure they knew where most of the drugs were usually exchanged. Most folks NOT in the know could walk by, and unless somebody was smoking pot, you'd never know.

But once again, if this society is to grow up, we need to take the stigma away from willing sex between consenting adults and REGULATE the sex industry...

As to Craig, it is the hypocrisy stupid, not his sex orientation, I could care less

16. If you have to man a desk and have twitchy bowels,
you don't have much choice of restrooms.

And you don't have to "know what you're looking for" when you enter a stall and there is a dick-sized hole drilled in the partition and gay porn all over the floor...

The bigger issue here is that you seem to advocate police informality on this issue. I think what is permitted should also be legal--not up to police officers to decide when and where to enforce the law against it. I don't trust their discretion and the dictatorial control that informality gives them leads to abuse. You should know--you come from Mexico, right?

14. Yeah, I'm sure Craig used discrimination when groping under and peeping into stalls

One of the major reasons DU has gotten so annoying are so many people trying desperately to prove how smart and how 'liberal' they are.

Making the sex trade legal would have ZERO effect on people like Craig.

Edit- and I do believe it should be legal and regulated.

But your need to link the two is tiresome.

15. Read about Holland and other countries where it is
regulated and free.

The societies are far from puritan and they have a far more open scene as it were

I am not the one linking this, but plenty of sociological studies have for MANY years

The US is one of the most represed and puritan societies in the Western World. It is also quite homophobic

Yes... general attitudes regarding sex and how you allow this sex to be expressed and how open gays can be in a society are related
