When you pull your clothes down to sit on the toilet, you either pull them down to just above your knees or you pull them down near your ankles.
If down near your ankles then it is impossible to spread your feet any further apart than your clothes will allow.
If just above your knees, you could spread your feet apart but it would be a very awkward and probably painful "knock kneed" position. A position which someone of Senator Widestance's age would probably find almost impossible.

Guys go standing up in the stalls all the time.
Heck, when I'm in a stall I try to do the splits on the rails when I go, just for that extra stance challenge. Then I crawl over the top of the partitions and smile down at everyone till the dismount.
