Richard Jewell dies - one time Atlanta bombing suspect
Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 03:04 PM by dancingme
ATLANTA - Richard Jewell, the former security guard who was erroneously linked to the 1996 Olympic bombing, died Wednesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Jewell, 44, was found dead in his west Georgia home, GBI spokesman John Bankhead said.

“There’s no suspicion whatsoever of any type of foul play. He had been at home sick since the end of February with kidney problems,” said Meriwether County Coroner Johnny Worley.

3. That's very sad.
His life was turned upside down over being falsely accused, and I wonder if he ever recovered fully from that.

He was very overweight, if I remember correctly. 44 is just not long enough.

RIP, Richard.

11. Possibly quite literally. Health and emotional state do affect each other.
Not that you didn't already know that, or that this wasn't what you were saying.

7. kick in memory of an ordinary guy whose life was ruined
He was just a security guard who wanted to be a cop but couldn't cut it. Just a low-paid, overweight schlub who wanted to be known as something more than that, wanted a little praise and glory.

Who doesn't?

Instead, he was held under siege for almost three months while the FBI and the world media ripped apart everything he had, and everything he was.

Poor fucker.

I've known guys like Richard Jewell. Watched them go under, then give up and die because - what did it matter? Who were they, and what were they ever going to be?

But Jewell had it even worse.

Rest in peace, sir, and my deepest condolences to your mom.

Kidney stuff is painful and nasty. Not a good way to die at all. :(

9. Health insurance casualty?
One of the tens of millions whom the system uses and abuses, then spits out their bones?

10. One would think that he should have been able to afford
health care even if he didn't have health insurance.

12. Shit, is that REALLY the headline? Not "Falsely Accused of Being the Bomber"?
Even in death, he's being framed for a crime. Goddamn the news media suck in this country.
