The return of Bob Grant....
This proves you CAN go home again. 77WABC has announced the return of Bob Grant. Bob takes over the 8-10pm slot effective immediately. "This adds one more slugger to the already formidable lineup on WABC," said Program Director Phil Boyce. "The afternoon lineup of Rush to Sean to Mark Levin to Bob Grant is the new murderer's row of radio."

Bob Grant, for those who didn't know him was one of the original R/W radio "personalities", known for offensive comments about people he didn't like, especially minorities. Even WABC wouldn't keep him on the air after making insentive comments about the recent death of Commerce Secretary Ron Brown in 1996. (""My hunch is he is the one survivor. I just have that hunch. Maybe it's because at heart I'm a pessimist."). Now, he's been welcomed back. I guess just having an "ordinary" conservative host (Jerry Agar until recently) wouldn't let them hold on to the Rush/Hannity/Levin audience...

I could have sworn Grant once said this, with just enough plausible deniability that he was really referring to criminals and not African Americans generally (yeah right :sarcasm: ), but I can't find any reference to it. But here's some other gems:

Critics charged that Grant was an inflammatory racist, pointing out Grant's statements (in disputed contexts) describing African Americans "savages" and former New York Mayor David Dinkins as "the men's room attendant at the 21 Club."

Also note that WABC is the rumored venue for the apparently impending comeback of one Don Imus. In fact, that's who I thought of when I saw the header. :eyes:
