MoveOn.org Plans TV Ads Against Baird's Iraq Views
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- MoveOn.org, the liberal cyberspace political action group, is launching television ads to whack at U.S. Rep. Brian Baird for shifting his views on Iraq.

Baird, a moderate-to-liberal from Vancouver, voted against the original Iraq war resolution in 2002 and a measure calling for withdrawal of some U.S. troops this fall, but recently said he now opposes a timeline.

Baird was hammered by anti-war activists at a town hall meeting in Vancouver on Monday night, including an estimated 100 MoveOn.org members who flooded the event.

1. That is stupid - they should not run an ad.
One of two things will happen if they run it - Baird will become more entrenched. Which is in no way helpful to the Dems in congress.
or
He will change his mind and look like he rolled over for purely political safety. He will look like a wuss.

If Moveon would back off he will likely change his position when it comes time for the next vote. They are putting him in a box when they need to go after the hateful war-mongering Rethugs.

3. Sounds like they already made the ad
"The bottom line is that Congressman Baird's new position is keeping the troops bogged down in an unwinnable situation in a civil war, and is out of line with the majority of his constituents," Chaudhary said.

The ad includes footage from Iraq, including a riot, and says "Keeping American soldiers in Iraq for an indefinite period of time being attacked by an unidentifiable enemy is immoral."

"Tell Rep. Baird, support our troops, bring them home," the ad says.

2. I don't understand this at all
we vote for a person to go to congress to represent our views. But when they get into congress they vote for what they want because they think what they want is best and the hell with our views. If he was in our district I would tell him point blank, that I would actively campaign to have his butt thrown out.

4. Seems to me there are three ways to serve in Congress.
(1) Broker - try and work with other House members to bring things back to your district or broker with others to move the ball forward on legislation since you can not score a touchdown every time.

(2) Follow - you can do what the people in the district want - even if you don't agree.

(3) Lead - tell the folks back in the district your true considered opinion. It requires patience on the part of the congress person to educate and try to get constituents to understand a view.

Of the three I respect # 3 the most. I respect #2 the least.

As for your view - it is completely legitimate. Find a better representative and support them. You can change out every two years.

What I don't like about Moveon is that it is just trashing a Dem and does not have an alternative.
