Rank the "Made in ..... " labels
In the wake of all the dangerous Cheap Chinese Crap that's been in the news, even ChinaInc's biggest trading partner, Wally World, is talking about carrying more stuff made in other than China. Places like Eastern Europe.

I think its safe to say there's not a lot of confidence in Chinese products. But what "Made in .... " labels **do** inspire confidence?

I was going to do this as a poll, but felt that would be too limiting.

In what nation's labels do you have confidence?

4. The more local the better
I try to buy locally produced food. Beyond that, I only buy American or Canadian foods (with the possible exception of wines and cheeses from the countries best known for them). In manufactured products, I try to buy only American, Canadian, or EU products.

6. Italy (love their shoes and food)
I have taken to raising an eyebrow at the "Made in USA" labels since the sweatshops in Samoa carry them

I like to look for the Union Label, but that's almost never found anymore

7. After the pet food and toy recalls I decided to try to boycott
things made in China, not necessarily because of the country of origin, but to help American workers. Yesterday I bought a Black and Decker tool (a hole saw) and was dismayed when I opened the package to notice "Made In China". Damn. Wally world used to be proud that all of their stuff was Made in the USA.

9. ...France!"
As in wine!

But seriously, what I can think of off the top of my head, is that electronics made in Japan are far superior to Chinese.

As always, though, I wish we had thriving industry in the U.S. to be able to buy U.S.A.

10. "Made in Japan"
Once this was associated with cheap, novelty items of virtually no lasting value. Then, in the late 40s and early 50s, Japan enacted very strict controls over exports - Ministry of Trade - establishing high standards for export goods that exceeded the standards for domestic sale and consumption. Indeed, there were many years where Japanese nationals couldn't even obtain goods at the level of quality they produced for export unless they traveled abroad.

They're the ONLY nation I know of to ever focus that much attention on their export goods.

13. Reminds me of Back to the Future
Where the Doctor of the 1950's was talking to Marty McFly from the 1980's:

Young Doc: No wonder this circuit failed. It says "Made in Japan".
Marty McFly: What do you mean, Doc? All the best stuff is made in Japan.
Young Doc: Unbelievable.

11. Made in SOUTH AFRLCA
Consumers can protect themselves by simply reading the toothpaste label. The fake tubes of toothpaste will say that the product was made in South Africa, which is false because Colgate does not important any part of its product or casing from this country.

Consumers can protect themselves by taking steps to identify counterfeit toothpaste. The counterfeit Colgate toothpaste products contain the labeling, "Manufactured in South Africa". Colgate does not import toothpaste into the U.S. from South Africa. Also check for misspelling:

5 oz. or 100 ml (Colgate does not make tubes of these sizes),
"isclinically,"
"SOUTH AFRLCA" and
"South African Dental Assoxiation."

12. I love to buy things from Europe
if I can't find American-made. Especially countries like France and the UK. I know the workers probably aren't exploited, have health care and are most likely living middle-class lives somewhat like our own. I choose food from Europe over American sometimes because I know it isn't genetically modified, and they don't allow hormones in their dairy products. (What a shame I can't be assured of that with American food.) Otherwise I buy food closer to home. (Except for wine or chocolate. :9)

16. Brazil for shoes...it's hard to find them since China took over the market.
Other than that...everything is China/Vietnam/India or some countries that helped Bush in the Coalition to Invade Iraq that most of us can't recognize the name of.

I only have confidence in Shoes from Brazil. The other stuff smells bad from the dyes and glue's they use.

How I long for the fresh smells of MADE IN AMERICA!

17. Check the union label.
That ranks first.

Then I tend to go for Made in USA, if I can be sure it doesn't mean "Marianas."

Then Canada.

Then Western Europe and Scandinavia.

Then England.

Then it kind of gets fuzzy.

and then the isolationists can complain that "those people from state X are stealing our jobs, they are STEALING from us."
