CALL TO ACTION:


Christina Rosevear, a pregnant Starbucks Barista and IWW member needs our help. Although she is over 8 months pregnant, Christina is being asked to come back to work Monday, September 3rd, or face termination. They will not extend her pregnancy leave, and she is due in just weeks.


Come out to the San Francisco Starbucks Regional Headquarters to demonstrate your support for Christina and to urge Starbucks to extend her pregnancy leave and health insurance coverage.


WHEN: THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 10AM ­ - 12PM

WHERE: STARBUCKS REGIONAL HQ, 455 North Point (Cost Plus Market
Building), between Taylor and Mason streets, in San Francisco, CA, in the
Embarcadero area.


ALSO, Call Jen Marinas, Partner Resources Associate of Northern CA, at her office: 415-241-0256 x 2228, or email her at jmarinas@starbucks.com, and urge her to pressure higher-ups to extend Christina Rosevear’s pregnancy leave (to actually cover her delivery date, and recovery time) and to leave her health insurance coverage intact. AND, contact Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz at hschultz@starbucks.com and Starbucks at 800-235-2883 with the same demands.

1. This is odd.Starbucks is usually very decent to its employees/
And is a very "Blue" company.What is this really about? I would only call if I knew the entire story. Something is not right here.

2. Indeed. But I must say I thought leave started after the pregnancy and not before
most of the woman at my job worked until they hatched, then took leave.

Is there some medical info we're missing?

They have a documentary film out about their fight against Starbucks and the company's union-busting. Visit the Starbucks Workers Union site at http://www.starbucksunion.org .

This first part of the article below (from the August issue of the INDUSTRIAL WORKER) lists their latest violations and the NLRB citing of Starbucks. It was even in Business Week magazine!

4. Still doesn't answer why her leave isn't AFTER the baby is born rather than before.
